0.How to prepare 1n sodium hydroxide.
In chemical experiments, sometimes we need to precisely prepare a sodium hydroxide solution of a certain concentration. 0.1n (or 0..)1mol l) of sodium hydroxide solution is a commonly used concentration. The following is the formulation of 0Steps for 1 N sodium hydroxide solution:
1. Prepare the required reagents and utensils.
Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH): You need to buy analytically pure sodium hydroxide.
Deionized water: Ensure the purity of the water to avoid impurities.
Beaker: used to dissolve sodium hydroxide.
Glass rods: used for stirring and dissolving processes.
Volumetric flask: for constant volume, usually 1L.
Weighing paper: used to weigh sodium hydroxide.
Electronic balances: for precise weighing.
Plastic gloves and masks: Protect yourself from irritation of sodium hydroxide.
Second, the preparation steps.
Calculate the amount of sodium hydroxide required: 0Sodium hydroxide of 1n is equivalent to 01mol l, i.e. 1 l solution contains 01mol sodium hydroxide. Therefore, the required mass of sodium hydroxide is 01mol * 40g/mol = 4g。
Add about 200 ml of deionized water to a beaker and then add 4 g of sodium hydroxide.
Stir with a glass rod to completely dissolve the sodium hydroxide. Heat may be needed to facilitate dissolution, but be careful not to let the water boil.
Pour the dissolved solution into a 1 L volumetric flask.
Rinse the beaker and glass rod with deionized water and pour the rinse solution into the volumetric flask as well. Make sure all sodium hydroxide is transferred to a volumetric flask.
Add water to the volumetric flask graduation mark and shake well.
Transfer the prepared solution to an appropriate container and label it with the solution name, concentration, and preparation date.
3. Precautions.
Be careful when handling and avoid contact with sodium hydroxide or eyes. In case of accidental contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention.
When heating to promote dissolution, make sure not to allow the water to boil to avoid inaccurate solution concentration.
Make sure the container is well sealed when storing to prevent the solution from spoiling by absorbing carbon dioxide from the air.
