On December 18, it was reported that on December 15, the "above the standard" shell ESG research activity was held in Beijing. At the event, Beike released the "2023 Beike Carbon Neutrality Goals and Action Route Report", promising to achieve carbon neutrality at the operational level no later than 2030.
This is the first time that Beike has released a carbon neutrality goal and action path. Beike is committed to achieving carbon neutrality at the operational level (Scope 1 and 2) by 2030, reducing the carbon emission intensity (Scope 3) of the headquarters and real estate brokerage business value chain by 60% by 2030 compared with the base year of 2022, and reducing the carbon emission intensity of the home improvement and housing rental business value chain (Scope 3) by 30% compared with the base year of 2022.
Strengthen top-level design and explore green development paths.
We comprehensively assessed the potential physical and transition risks of climate change on our business operations, and established the Sustainability Department of Beike Corporate Social Responsibility Center in 2022 to plan our strategic layout in advance and firmly grasp the strategic initiative of Beike's sustainable development and low-carbon transformation. The carbon neutrality report mentions that in the past two years, Beike has conducted two inventories of greenhouse gases generated by the real estate brokerage business and the whole. Combined with the carbon inventory work, and comprehensively considering factors such as future business planning, the low-carbon development level of the industry, and current emission reduction measures, Beike proposed carbon neutrality goals and action routes.
At the operational level, Beike plans to carry out emission reduction measures from the paths of management efficiency improvement, energy structure optimization, and technological innovation. Approximately 80% of Beike's operational emissions** are generated by purchased electricity, of which nearly 80% come from the electricity use emissions of its stores, so energy conservation in stores is the top priority for Beike to achieve its own operational carbon neutrality goal. To this end, Beike has introduced an intelligent energy consumption control system to intelligently count, diagnose and optimize the energy usage of stores, and strive to reduce energy consumption and emissions per unit area. In September 2023, Beijing Lianjia Alpha Community Store has obtained LEED Gold certification, which is the first Lianjia store to pass LEED certification.
At the value chain level, Beike will actively promote emission reduction and carbon reduction from upstream and downstream ecological partners, and carry out emission reduction measures from the perspectives of green procurement, green ** chain, and green logistics, so as to help the low-carbon development of the industry. According to the results of the 2022 Shell Carbon Accounting, about 55% of the emissions in the Shell value chain come from the daily procurement of Shell, including the procurement of products in the process of business development and the procurement of materials to support the company's own operationsApproximately 21% of emissions come from data centers leased by Beike;About 15% of the emissions come from the large equipment, vehicles, furniture, etc. purchased by Shell.
On the procurement side of home decoration products, Shell cooperates with the upstream and downstream of the industry to explore lightweight and low-carbon decoration, selects decoration materials in a standardized and modular way, and improves the degree of digitalization and the proportion of installationIn the decoration design stage, it is preferred to choose lightweight furniture that can be flexibly loaded and unloaded;Promote the low-carbon development of the industry, and actively participate in the formulation of low-carbon and sustainable development standards for the decoration and building materials industryIn terms of product transportation, taking the Beijing Home Improvement Material Warehouse of Shell as an example, 95% of the feeder distribution vehicles distributed from the Beijing warehouse to the place of business demand are electric vehicles.
Technology empowers low-carbon and works together to build a better home.
The use of VR technology to help low-carbon environmental protection has become a major feature of Beike's daily operations. Based on the self-developed VR collection software and hardware, it effectively improves the efficiency of brokers and customers, and helps customers and brokers reduce the carbon footprint of travel. In 2022, Beike platform users will use VR to view houses** for a total of 150.8 billion times, compared with the traditional on-site viewing, a decrease of more than 278980,000 tons of carbon emissions.
Beike continues to promote the paperless service boundary of different transaction links. At present, Beike's paperless service model has covered scenarios such as online real estate signing, online appraisal, online loan signing, and online notarization, and has achieved partial paperless in the signing of contracts such as home improvement and leasing and the signing of agreements at the east end of the store. In 2022, a total of more than 68 million sheets of paper were saved, which reduced carbon emissions by about 593 tons compared to traditional paper contracts. Through the BIM system, the 3D visualization method is adopted, and the design scheme of Beike Home Improvement Business is fully online, reducing the dependence on physical design drawings.
In its daily operations, Beike will give full play to its attributes rooted in the community and guide community residents to participate in carbon reduction practices. Since September 2020, Beike has launched three phases of the "Blue Ocean Action", combining the low-carbon behavior of users and employees with carbon reduction contributions, and planting mangrove seedlings in the form of individuals or co-species. In June 2023, Beike became one of the first China initiatives to join the World Economic Forum's "Global Trillion Tree Leaders Initiative" (1torg China action) community.
Peng Yongdong, Co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Beike, said: "Beike has no hesitation in carbon neutrality, and addressing climate change will be one of the important issues in Beike's future work. As a technology-driven one-stop new residential service platform, we hope to drive a wider range of carbon reduction through technology empowerment and community links, and drive the participation of users, brokers and other relevant parties through technologies such as VR, AR, and online signing, so as to create a low-carbon future in the residential sector. ”
