On December 18, China's first ocean drilling ship independently designed and built was officially named "Dream" and launched in Nansha, Guangzhou. This also marks a key step in China's deep-sea exploration capacity building and equipment modernization.
The construction of the ocean drilling ship "Dream" started on November 30, 2021, the main hull of the ship was completed on December 18, 2022, and the official name "Dream" was officially named "Dream" on December 18, 2023 and sea trials, which is expected to be fully completed in 2024. After completion, the "Dream" will mainly undertake major national scientific and technological projects and international ocean scientific drilling tasks.
The "Dream" was designed and built by China State Shipbuilding Group, with a gross tonnage of about 33,000 and a total length of 1798 meters, 32 meters wide8 meters, endurance of 15,000 nautical miles, self-sustaining power of 120 days, stability and structural strength are designed according to the safety requirements of 16 typhoon sea conditions, with the operation capacity of unlimited navigation area in the global sea area and the drilling capacity of 11,000 meters in the sea area.
In accordance with the design and construction concept of "small tonnage, multi-function and modularization", the "Dream" has broken through more than 10 key technologies, completed a number of international first designs, and its overall equipment and comprehensive operation capacity are at the international leading level.
The main goal of this sea trial was to verify the powertrain functionality. The "Dream" is equipped with the latest generation of 30 MW closed-loop ring power station, which is the first time in the world to apply energy storage technology and closed-loop power grid to the DP-3 dynamic positioning system, greatly improving the economy and reliability of the ship, and saving energy consumption by more than 15%.
It is understood that the "Dream" supporting drilling support vessels, wharves, core depots, etc. have all been put into use. As the first domestic scientific research ship transformed by an offshore ship, the drilling support ship "Haiyang Dizhi II" has the ability to accompany the "Dream" to carry out global navigation operations, and can also independently carry out marine engineering and marine scientific research, and has completed many important tasks such as the sea trial of China's first marine floating temperature difference energy device, and has worked at sea for nearly 500 days.
The southern wharf and the northern wharf are the first deep-water research wharves built in China, which can provide strong shore-based support for the operation of the "Dream". The world-class ocean drilling core bank is equipped with five different temperature storage conditions at room temperature, 4, -20, -80 and -196, which can meet the needs of different sample storage, and can store core samples with a cumulative length of 450,000 meters, making it the world's largest ocean drilling core bank.
