It was the first meeting between the league's best players and rookies
Wembanyama is already on the path to stardom, and Giannis certainly sees it.
Victor Wembanyama battled Giannis Antetokounmpo in a thrilling battle on Thursday night, with the pair once again acknowledging his potential.
He's an incredible talent," Giannis said of Wembanyama after the Bucks' 125-121 win over the Spurs in San Antonio. "[He] can score at any time. Play the right way and fight for victory. It feels good to play against him.
After the Milwaukee victory, Antetokounmpo had some nice things to say about the rookie on his 20th birthday, even though his young rival scored 27 points that night.
In another chat with reporters after the game, the Bucks star continued to talk about Wembanyama: "I've never met anyone like him. Seventy-four, seventy-five......I don't know how tall he is. He was not seven or three feet, but much taller than seven or three.
But at the end of the day, you haven't seen anything like this yet. I didn't. Maybe you have. So (for him) the sky is the limit. ”
Because of his diverse skills, Wembanyama has long been considered the best rookie of his generation.
The Frenchman, who is 7'4 inches tall, has good enough ball-handling ability to move like a defender, as evidenced by his clever back-dribbling in the third quarter, which made Damian Lillard look silly.
Giannis scored 44 points to beat Winbanyama to claim the victory.
While the two went back and forth throwing some amazing three-pointers and individual performances, NBA fans were in the game.
He hit a three-pointer with three minutes left to tie the score at 118 and hit a second shot 34 seconds later to give the Bucks a 121-118 lead.
Wembanyama responded, blocked Lillard's layup and hit a three-pointer with 53 seconds left to tie the score.
He then blocked a dunk from Giannis to equalize the score, but instead he dropped a controversial three-pointer and passed the ball to Tre Jones, who missed a shot in the bottom right corner.
Although Wembanyama impressed the Greek monster, the Spurs' overall record of 5-29 is the second-worst record in the NBA and as disappointing as the Wizards with six wins.
Only the Detroit Pistons, who recently set a losing streak in the NBA, have a worse record at 3-31.
Wembanyama still showed signs of a rookie as he played just 26 minutes on Thursday night compared to 40 minutes for Antetokounmpo.
While the Spurs' chance of making the playoffs is gone, Milwaukee is second in the Eastern Conference, two games behind Boston.
Wembanyama and Antetokounmpo have not faced each other again this season.
