Dr. Duan, whose name is Weijun Duan, is a Ph.D. in microbiology from the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and he has been working at the Ningbo Customs Technology Center for 15 years. Over the years, he has been concentrating on the research of pest detection and identification technology, and the bottles and cans in the laboratory, instruments and equipment have become his most familiar "old friends".

Duan Weijun was born in a rural area, majored in plant protection in college, and later studied for a master's degree and a doctorate, all of which were related to plant pathogenic fungi. The only explanation for this consistent persistence is love. "I really like the work I do, and it's very rewarding to protect the country's biosecurity. "More than 70% of common plant diseases are caused by fungi. However, it is difficult to detect fungal diseases, accurate and fast, and I need to study and work hard. ”
In 2008, I had just started working in the lab, and I felt really stressed. Duan Weijun said with a smile, "When I was in school, everyone focused on in-depth research on a certain fungus, but when I went to the laboratory, I had to identify all kinds of fungi in different imported plants, and many of the fungi I had never been exposed to." "Plant quarantine work is not easy, and when the senior teachers at the job are transferred, Duan Weijun, who was still a "bachelor" at the time, automatically turned on the "overtime mode", checking information and doing experiments during the day, and writing materials and doing research ...... at night
At the beginning of 2019, when Duan Weijun was testing the samples as usual, he found that the samples were discolored and had small sclerotia on them. With professional sensitivity and rich professional experience, he decisively carried out a series of work such as isolation and culture, biological characteristics research, morphological observation, DNA sequence determination and analysis of the sclerotia. In the end, the fungus identified was detected for the first time at a port in China.
This is a true portrayal of Duan Weijun's work in the laboratory. Since 2012, six kinds of quarantine pests have been intercepted at Ningbo Port for the first time, and these achievements are inseparable from the wholehearted efforts of Duan Weijun and his team.
Tireless exploration.
Now, the laboratory is not the same as it used to be. In the past, many of our tests relied on morphological identification, but now they rely on molecular identification, which is more and more accurate and fast, and if the detection results are not accurate, it is easy to cause some disputes. Duan Weijun led the team to tirelessly explore ......
Plant quarantine is like a big sieve, and the quarantine results must be constantly refined. In order to be able to "capture" some fungi more efficiently and quickly, Duan Weijun's team has developed high-order molecular detection technology methods, and also formulated four high-order national standards, breaking the passive situation of long-term lack of molecular detection technology for some fungi.
Quarantine fungal taxa are diverse, morphologically varied, and international research is progressing rapidly, and it is not enough for us to do it alone. Duan Weijun said, "The Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has a deep research foundation in a number of plant pathogenic fungal groups, so I thought of cooperation and put the research into practice through our laboratory." Duan Weijun's team cooperated with Cai Lei's team from the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to build China's first quarantine fungus database platform, "We want to provide a 'one-stop' service from the initial screening of environmental samples to the accurate identification of species by integrating multiple information database resources, so as to better serve the port gatekeeper." "With their joint efforts, the database not only simplifies the data analysis process, but also enables data submission and analysis and identification, which greatly improves the efficiency of quarantine.
Perseverance and progress.
His hard work has won him many honors: first selected the "151 Talent Project" in Zhejiang Province, Ningbo leading and top-notch talents, and also won the honorary titles of "Ningbo Expert with Outstanding Contributions", "Ningbo Youth Science and Technology Award Winner", "Ningbo Port Top Ten National Biosecurity Guards" and so on. These honors have given him more responsibilities. "Learning never graduates, and thinking is always young. This is a phrase that Duan Weijun often says. His delving is not for a moment, but for perseverance, which has become his Xi.
In June this year, he presided over the completion of a public welfare research project in Zhejiang Province. "We analyzed and compared the interception of quarantine pests in the past 10 years, and carried out a technical inductive analysis. Duan Weijun looked at the computer screen and introduced. Through the research on the screening and detection technology of quarantine fungi in imported soybean and the traceability technology of origin, Duan Weijun constructed a core DNA sequence database of quarantine fungus pattern isolates in China, which can accurately screen quarantine fungi. On this basis, a rapid detection technology for important quarantine fungi in grain has also been established. "Through the application of the research results, we have identified one quarantine fungus in imported grain products, and it is the first time in the country!Duan Weijun was extremely proud.
Since his work, he has presided over and participated in more than 20 national scientific research projects, published more than 90 articles in domestic and foreign journals, obtained 17 authorized patents, participated in the formulation of 25 national and industry standards, and won more than 10 national, provincial and ministerial scientific and technological progress awards. "This year, I have applied for a national key research and development project, planning to carry out research on the early monitoring and early warning technology of major alien pests and the port blocking prevention and control system, so as to contribute some of my own strength to the prevention of biological disasters.
