Shared area, a concept originally used to describe public areas in real estate, is now being used by netizens to describe the false part of snack packaging. Recently, the "shared area of snacks is getting bigger and bigger" has once again attracted attention.

According to China News Weekly, some merchants have taken great pains to make their products appear more "material": what seems to be a three-equal biscuit is found that a piece is recessed in the middle when they open the box;A large packet of desiccant is padded in a piece of seaweed; There are only 5 cartons of milk in a carton, and the remaining twice the space is filled with cardboard ......This kind of packaging was complained by a large number of netizens, saying that they felt deceived and fooled.

Snacks are a small blessing in many people's lives. But when I opened a box of snacks that seemed to be very full, I found that the contents inside were pitiful, and some places were concave, and some places should not be protruding. This obviously means that there are too many "unusable parts" in the snack package. You have to pay for the "shared area" for a snack, and consumers are certainly not happy.

The reason why the "shared area" of snacks is getting bigger and bigger is mainly due to the profit-seeking choices of merchants under market competition and cost pressure. In particular, the overall consumption of snacks is not high, and customers are more sensitive to simple price increases. In order to reduce costs and raise profit margins, merchants often guide purchases through packaging to increase the added value of goods to a certain extent. In addition, the psychology of some consumers pursuing gorgeous packaging has also contributed to the phenomenon of packaging seriously exaggerating the actual weight of goods.

These non-essential snack packaging will not only visually misguide customers, but also infringe on consumers' right to know and choose. It will also cause a huge waste of resources and increase waste pollution to the environment. According to authoritative data, about 30% to 40% of China's municipal solid waste is packaging waste, and most of it comes from excessive packaging. Moreover, merchants compete with "excessive packaging" to cater to consumers' face mentality and comparison psychology, and in the long run, selling products will become alienated into selling packaging, which will inevitably cause a vicious circle of bad money driving out good money.

In fact, in order to curb excessive packaging, the state has taken frequent actions in recent years. Especially in September this year, the national standard "Limit the Excessive Packaging Requirements for Food and Cosmetics" was officially implemented, and the new regulations have made clear provisions on the number of packaging layers, packaging costs, void ratios, etc., making it clear that food packaging should not exceed three layers, and the packaging cost of non-contact food does not exceed 20% of product sales. The larger the "shared area" of snacks, the higher the packaging void rate, which will be judged as "excessive packaging" and punished by the regulatory authorities.

Although beautiful packaging can attract consumers, it is putting the cart before the horse when selling products to sell packaging. Buying a snack must be counted as a "shared area", so excessive packaging is really unnecessary. It is still necessary to give up those careful machines that make a fuss around packaging and work hard to create cost-effective products, which is the right way.
