One autumn day in 1993, the Liao family in Hunan Province happily welcomed their youngest son. The baby born in this autumn moon was named Liao Fan. And his arrival also indicates that this family of three is about to welcome new joy in the future life. 
Liao Fan's father, Liao Bingyan, is the director of the Hunan Provincial Drama Theater, and although his mother gave up the stage, she is still active behind the scenes of costume design. It can be said that the breath of dramatic art has endured in this family of three. Since he realized his existence, Liao Fan was attracted by the various costumes and props around him. When his parents rehearse the play, he always hides alone in the background, watching his parents look like the people in the play through the cracks. This perseverance lasted from the age of 5 until he entered elementary school at the age of 12, and his tireless enthusiasm became almost natural. In fact, his parents want him to study hard, after all, in the environment of the 90s, the road of acting is still too difficult for many ordinary people. In his spare time, he likes to study the drama characters in the original textbooks over and over again, trying to figure out their inner world. His classmates always felt that he was quiet and mysterious, unsociable and alone. In the autumn of 1996, with his outstanding cultural class results, Liao Fan stepped into the coveted Shanghai Theater Academy as he wished. For this young man who grew up in an artistic atmosphere, it is a great blessing to have the opportunity to systematically learn about acting. At the opening ceremony of the new students, he couldn't help but redden, and secretly vowed to study hard in the next four years and absorb this tireless performance spirit. However, after the start of his sophomore year, Liao Fan's study life was not satisfactory. He is not good at socializing, he is always alone, and would rather read a book on the rooftop alone than attend after-school parties. 
Several times I was named and criticized by the teacher for not being interested, and I was once facing the dilemma of not being able to graduate. The political science teacher at the college persuaded him to change the status quo several times and said that he could recommend him to stay in the school to teach. But this seemingly introverted young man has always burned with an endless desire to perform, and even if the road ahead is confused, he has never given up the exploration and madness of theater. It wasn't until 1996 that Liao Fan accidentally saw the news that the Ministry of Culture would hold the first National College Drama Performance Competition in Beijing. He immediately picked up the pen and signed up without hesitation. The competition required each person to perform a skit independently, and he chose a character with Chinese characteristics - the old man who sharpened the knife. In order to faithfully present this image, he found a real sharpener near the school and began a three-month follow-up process. 
On the day of the competition, when Liao Fan took the stage to perform as an old man sharpening knives, the concentration and professionalism revealed on his smiling face impressed all the judges, and he finally won the championship of the competition. And this turning point undoubtedly became the starting point for him to break out of the world in the drama industry in the future. In the summer of 1997, Liao Fan was full of longing and ambition, and went north to Beijing with a simple bag on his back, starting the first decade of his career as an actor. When he first arrived in Beijing, he was in a hurry and confused, but fortunately, he met the famous theater director Meng Jinghui. This already famous senior saw himself in this calm and introverted young man, so he accepted him as an apprentice and gave him his first chance to act. 
But in the first ten years since then, Liao Fan has lived a bitter "dragon set" life, just silently following behind the first-line stars. Because of this, his heart is more calm, and one day, he can also make a comeback. In 2005, Liao Fan finally ushered in the first highlight moment of his life. In the movie "Cuckold" in which he starred, he successfully portrayed a complex, contradictory and controversial male protagonist. And with this role, he won the Best Actor Award at the Singapore International Film Festival. This is undoubtedly his first major breakthrough and transformation since the film. 
When the good news came, Liao Fan, who was on the set, did not show much excitement. He just nodded quietly and continued to devote himself to the shooting. Even if others were puzzled by his cold reaction, his heart had actually been soothed by such recognition. This award undoubtedly indicates that he is about to usher in a higher peak of his career. In the nearly 4 years since 2006, there has not been a single film and television work starring Liao Fan. In 2009, after 4 years of silence, 40-year-old Liao Fan finally ushered in the peak of his acting career. He successfully portrayed a complex and decadent police officer in the suspense drama "Fireworks in the Day", and was shortlisted for the Best Actor Award at the Berlin Film Festival in Germany. When the host read out the name "Liao Fan" at the awards ceremony on February 15, local time, the scene was in an uproar. Countless pairs of eyes and flashing lights were aimed at this man from the East, who became the first Chinese actor to win the highest performance award in the 60-year history of the Berlin Film Festival. And at the moment, everyone is cheering for Liao Fan. Only he himself was unfazed. Without much to say, he walked up to the podium indifferently, and after thanking everyone, he stepped aside and quietly looked at the other winners on the stage. Perhaps it is precisely because of his consistent low-key calmness that he has won such high recognition and praise in the international film industry.
