After the pandemic, I made a decision.
I left a public tertiary hospital, not because of any unhappiness or involution, but because after the epidemic, my worldview has completely changed.
In the wake of a violent catastrophe, the subject's voice became weak. Day after day, as the rising sun sets into dusk, I deeply feel the shortness of life, and in the flick of a finger, we will grow old.
However, I believe that the length of life cannot be changed, but we can give it greater breadth. Yes, I wanted to pursue the breadth of life, so I decided to take this brave step.
I had heard of the name of Professor Song Donglei of "Donglei Brain Department" before, but I never thought that one day I would come to his command. When I came to the interview, the hospital was very "polite" and gave a very difficult skull base tumor surgery as a test. With this surgery perfect, I opened the door to a new life for myself.
In fact, the pursuit of the breadth of life is not an earth-shattering sentence, it has a very practical meaning for me. Although my career in a public hospital is thriving, I am not satisfied with my natural love of challenges, and I hope to realize my potential, explore more possibilities, and realize more value. I had heard for a long time that the hospital wanted to build a Chinese-style Mayo Clinic, and they not only have a reputation for technology and services, but also constantly pursue innovation and progress, with a strong focus on the use of new technologies. Through the contact with Professor Song during the interview, an intuition was born, and Shanghai Donglei Brain Hospital was the broad platform I wanted to show my strengths. If my limited life can play more value, and I can challenge more things that I love and can achieve, then there is no doubt that this is the breadth I want to pursue.
On November 3 last year, I left Zhengzhou for Shanghai. At the huge Zhengzhou station, the hall that can accommodate one or two hundred thousand people is empty, and there are only two or three people. After getting off the high-speed train, I was forced to be placed in a remote and desolate apartment for quarantine. It was a long and difficult time. At that time, I felt very lost and panicked in my heart. It was Professor Song Donglei who brought me care and warmth. At his invitation, he participated in ** and business Xi, and experienced the warmth of the Donglei family in advance.
Professor Song Donglei, who is in a hurry, and Director Zhang Xuejun, who is bold and meticulous, ......After coming to Donglei Brain Department, I have met many lovely friends and many excellent experts. We are like-minded people of the same age, and we come together for a common goal and to create a better medical care in China, and I am very touched by this team atmosphere. In this way, I joined Shanghai Donglei Brain Hospital.
At Shanghai Donglei Brain Hospital, I served as the deputy director of the Second Department of Neurosurgery. Sometimes, I consider myself lucky to be able to work side by side with a team to create stories of life and hope.
I still remember that in November last year, a beautiful ** teacher was admitted to the hospital because of hemiplegia caused by a tumor in the intracranial functional area. The tumor is large and difficult to operate. I worked with Professor Michael Sughrue from the well-known Barlow Neurosurgery Center in the United States, and used the original technology of both parties to remove the tumor in a bone window the size of a fingernail on the patient's skull, which perfectly protected the brain functional area, and the patient recovered to be able to get out of bed and walk on the first day after the operation.
This is the first real surgery in Shanghai Donglei Brain Department, and Professor Michael also said that "this should be the world's first most minimally invasive craniotomy that combines two techniques". Subsequently, my surgery case also received a lot of coverage. Got a lot of praise.

As an attending specialist in a brain hospital, after joining Shanghai Donglei, I have put forward higher requirements for myself. We often accept patients who have been "sentenced to death" and do everything we can to save their lives with the original intention of being a doctor.
Some time ago, a patient with a spinal canal mass came to my clinic. At that time, the patient was completely unable to walk, which had a huge impact on his life. The patient told me that he had seen it in the outer hospital, but the hospital had not given it for a long time, and the initial plan was to "open a large knife, a large operation", open the entire spinal canal and inject a lot of "nail sticks". We carefully studied the patient's case data and imaging data, and believed that the most important thing was to give priority to rescuing the spinal cord and letting the patient stand up quickly, and then through the use of minimally invasive techniques, only a "small knife" was prescribed for the patient to remove the mass in the spinal canal, and it was gratifying that within four days after the operation, the patient recovered from the paraplegia and was able to stand and walk independently.
Recently, another patient also tugged at my heartstrings. The patient was diagnosed with malignant meningioma and had been operated on twice in the outer hospital, and both hospitals have a certain comprehensive strength and popularity, but the family said that "the chief surgeon said that the second operation can only be removed a little bit, because the difficulty is too great, the risk is too great, and the third time can not be opened, otherwise even the knife will not last", but seeing that the patient's eyeball is about to be squeezed out due to the compression of the tumor, what should I do next? The patient is only in his 50s and is in good health, so can he just go home and wait for death? No one gave him an answer. In a desperate situation, the patient's family came to Donglei Brain Department to find me after many inquiries.
I knew that this patient's skull base tumor was too complex and would be a huge challenge for any surgeon. But saving people always comes first! The trust of patients and families is also not to be disappointed. Therefore, we made careful preoperative preparations for the patient, and finally spent 7 hours to remove the tumor in the skull, and there were no new complications after the operation, and the patient was able to get out of bed and walk the next day after the operation. You really can't deny that the joy and gratitude of the patients and their families who have regained their lives after surgery is the greatest feedback to our doctors.
In fact, after coming to Shanghai Donglei Brain Hospital, I have a more in-depth observation of patients. I have found that many patients have to travel from place to place because they have no way to seek medical treatment, and they have to make several trips just to get check-ups. The patient's own illness is painful enough, and the exhaustion of medical treatment is even more overwhelming.
In order to strengthen academic construction and lead the development of medical industry, our hospital has established 15 specialized disease centers. Luckily, the hospital gave me the position of head of the Academic Center for Malignant Oncology. After taking over this responsibility, we optimized a series of diagnosis and treatment processes such as surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and reorganized and restructured a set of diagnosis and treatment service system of the malignant tumor center, avoiding patients going back and forth, and efficiently integrating high-quality medical resources across the country to serve patients. At the same time, it gives full play to its strengths, and applies cutting-edge technologies such as ultra-minimally invasive technology, holographic immunoleast-class technology and cryotechnology to various refractory malignant tumor surgeries.
In addition, we have further strengthened the MDT multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment system. The existing MDT in China emphasizes the joint diagnosis and treatment of patients by experts from different disciplines, but in fact, MDT has more possibilities. After systematic thinking, we upgraded the traditional MDT and proposed the super MDT concept. The relevant chapters have been published authoritatively and extensively, which has had a certain influence and has been recognized by many peers. At present, the super MDT has been successfully implemented, and the first case has been completed in Chengdu, which has received a positive response.

As a medical worker who is committed to exploring and constantly pursuing technological innovation, I am also the head of the hospital's innovation and transformation department. I invented the first "air cut voice valve" in China, and won the 2023 Shanghai Qingpu District Scientific Research Project**. At the same time, he also invented a "medical head-mounted headlamp" and obtained a national practical product patent.
The work in Donglei has brought me a lot of inspiration and thinking, the atmosphere here is very open, and the professors pay great attention to the mentoring of young doctors and grassroots doctors. With a passion for sharing and disseminating medical technology, I was appointed as the project leader of the Top 100 Doctors. The hospital has set up an online and offline platform that is open to doctors who need to Xi for further study. Doctors can not only improve their professional standards and broaden their horizons through online learning Xi, but also come to Donglei Brain Department offline for further study, and if they are particularly excellent, they can also get valuable opportunities for overseas study and Xi exchanges. I think it's a great idea, because today's doctors are usually busy with their work and their training is relatively scattered, and they really need systematic Xi to help them improve their medical skills.
As the saying goes: It is better to teach a man to fish than to teach him to fish. Through everyone's efforts, a large number of young doctors and community doctors from all over the world joined the project and regularly carried out exchange and learning Xi every week. I often invite professors from well-known tertiary hospitals in China to participate in Xi and teach students. This business not only promotes the dissemination of advanced neurosurgery technology, but also helps young neurosurgeons to grow themselves, which will ultimately benefit more patients.
