The latest Windows 11 preview builds from Dev Channel include an interesting change that may be unpleasant for users who are Xi using the bottom right corner of the screen to minimize all applications or display the desktop. Microsoft is trying to put the"copilot"icon next to the Notification Center button, which cancels it"Display the desktop"button to use the new AI assistant instead.
Microsoft says the logic behind the change, which is gradually rolling out to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel, is to place the Copilot icon in a clearer, more intuitive location, right where the operating system displays the Copilot pane. Therefore,"Display the desktop"Buttons are now removed by default. Microsoft said:
We're changing where the Copilot icon appears on the right side of the taskbar system tray to make the entrance to Copilot clearer and more accessible by opening closer to the Copilot pane. This change sounds reasonable, but it can cause some minor headaches for users, especially those who use it regularly"Display the desktop"button, because the button was already in Windows 7 (Microsoft tried this idea earlier, but it wasn't introduced to the public until 2009), when Microsoft moved it to the bottom right corner. As a result, a large number of users have to retrain muscle memory.
Luckily, users can still recover easily"Display the desktop"Button. Go to"Settings">"Personalization">"Taskbar">"Taskbar behavior"and toggle"Select the far corner of the taskbar to display the desktop"Options.
