Satoru Gojo's character has a disappointing ending in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Satoru Gojo is considered one of the most powerful and realistic characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, but his character arc was assassinated in the Lore Match.
Gojo Satoru's goal as a sorcerer is to change the corrupt world order of spells from within and create a society where the weak don't wait.
The ending of Satoru Gojo's lore match with Subu doesn't make sense, and it also takes away the opportunity for a satisfying ending of the character arc, reducing Satoru Gojo to just "the strongest".
Satoru Gojo is one of the most important characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, and fans have known him for a long time, he is the strongest modern sorcerer and a representative of the entire series. Despite not being the main character, Satoru Gojo is a character that almost everyone in the story knows, and he is undoubtedly one of the most realistic characters in the entire series, at least until the Lore Kill Match.
After Satoru Gojo is unsealed in the lore match, the battle between him and the king of spells, Susu, begins. The fight is very intense and one of the best that fans have seen in the story, however, the ending of this fight does not make much sense, not only does it end in a very suspicious way and without much reason, but it is also assassinating Satoru Gojo's character, completely destroying his character arc.
Satoru Gojo is a character that fans have known for a long time in Jujutsu Kaisen. The character encounters knotweed after eating the cuspween's finger, a spell, after his execution is announced, and then, slowly, shows fans who he really is, how strong he is, and what his goals are. On the surface, Satoru Gojo looks like a guy who doesn't care about many things, but he reveals that he does have his own goals as a conjurer. As a member of the Gojo family, he is considered an exalted figure, and he single-handedly controls his entire family and is known as their pride, largely due to the immense power he possesses due to the Six Eyes and the Infinity Technique.
Although Satoru Gojo himself belongs to one of the Big Three, his disgust with the current order of the spell world is obvious. Satoru Gojo knows that the world is fundamentally corrupt, and he wants to change that, however, in order to do so, Satoru Gojo must start a revolution. Satoru Gojo could easily kill everyone because he was that strong, however, this solution certainly wouldn't be sustainable. It won't last, which is why Satoru Gojo decided to change the system from within. He decided to train the next generation and change the spell order from within. By doing so, Satoru Gojo would change the entire world, helping his students create a society where the weak would not be trampled on or abandoned.
At some point, Gojo Satoru's characters definitely don't care about the weak, however, after the events of the hidden inventory chapter, both Gojo Satoru and Tsukishima have a distinct character change. While Tsukishima decides to eliminate all non-sorcerers, Gojo Satoru decides to solve the problem in his own way and change the order from within.
After Satoru Gojo established his goals, the image of his own character was also questioned by Tsukishima. After Tsukishima becomes a villain, he asks Satoru Gojo the question of whether he became Satoru Gojo because he was the strongest or the strongest because he was Satoru. It's a central question about Satoru's own character arc – finding the true meaning of his character, and whether his personality makes him the strongest, or whether his current personality is because he was born to be the strongest.
These questions make Satoru Gojo his enigmatic character, and of course, at the same time, there are many other aspects of his character that make him very interesting as a character. Needless to say, Satoru Gojo is one of the best characters written in Jujutsu Kaisen, largely due to the fact that his characters revolve around these aspects, however, the Lore Fight chapter allows Satoru Gojo to be completely and completely assassinated.
Satoru Gojo fights Subu in the Lore Match, where he exerts his powers and shows a considerable level. While his fights are very interesting, there is something about his character writing in these chapters that makes fans uncomfortable.
Satoru Gojo barely interacts with his own students after returning, which is strange in itself. However, this whole process gets worse and worse as he fights Su Fu. When Satoru Gojo finally dies, fans see him meet his departed companion. The biggest shock he encounters comes from his conversations with Tsukishima, Nanami, and the others. They tell Satoru Gojo that he has always been a man who serves himself and that he uses mantras as a means of self-gratification. Essentially, they call Satoru Gojo a man who fights only for himself and for his own pleasure.
What's more, it also shows fans that Satoru Gojo is essentially a character who never cares about saving others, however, from the first chapters of the story, it is clear that Satoru Gojo wants to save the people around him, which is one of the reasons why he intends to revolutionize the existing world order and one of the reasons why he became a teacher in the first place. Fans also know that Satoru Gojo cares deeply about his students.
Satoru Gojo seemed to admit it and just smiled and looked back on his life. Satoru Gojo mentions that he honed his skills to the best and wanted to teach Sukuro the meaning of true love, however, despite this, he failed. The truth is that Satoru Gojo is a largely self-centered figure, however, it would be wrong to reduce his entire character to a selfish person who fights for his own pleasure. Satoru Gojo sets his goal at the very beginning of the story, and the author seems to have forgotten this himself.
If that wasn't enough, the question of whether Gojo Satoru's death essentially means that Gojo Satoru became the strongest because of his personality or because he was born to be the strongest, will never be answered. The question is set aside in the air, and the greatest aspects of his character arc remain unanswered. Satoru Gojo is essentially reduced to "the strongest".
Even when he was the strongest, he was stripped of his pride, and when Satoru Gojo himself was seen saying that he wasn't sure if he would have been able to defeat him if Subu hadn't used the Ten Shadows Jutsu. It came as a shock to the fans, especially since they witnessed the fight firsthand, and for most of the fight, Satoru Gojo was the side in control while Subu was in a difficult situation. The ending of this battle is completely unjustified, and at the same time, it also robs Satoru of any chance of having a good character arc ending, and also reduces him to a selfish man, even though he articulates his goals in the story long ago.
Hopefully, if Satoru Gojo returns to the story, the author will focus on these aspects of his characters to create a compelling ending for his character arc, which has the potential to be one of the best in the entire series.
