How to sterilize the sponge used for washing dishes

Dishwashing sponges are common cleaning tools that are often exposed to food debris and grease and are prone to bacterial growth. In order to sterilize the sponge and maintain its cleanliness, the following methods can be taken:

1.Blanching disinfection: Soak the sponge in hot water and rinse the sponge with hot boiled water. The high temperature of hot water can effectively kill bacteria and viruses. Make sure the water temperature is above 70 and fully submerge the sponge in the water to ensure thorough disinfection.

2.Use bleach: Mix one part bleach with nine parts of water, soak a sponge in this solution and soak for 10-15 minutes. Bleach has a strong bactericidal ability and can effectively remove bacteria from the sponge. Care should be taken to follow the correct dilution ratio when using bleach and ensure that it is operated in a well-ventilated environment.

3.Regular cleaners: Regular cleaners containing antibacterial ingredients can be used to clean the sponge. After soaking the sponge, apply an appropriate amount of detergent and rub the sponge with your hands to ensure that the detergent fully penetrates every corner of the sponge. Then rinse the sponge with clean water to ensure thorough cleaning.

4.UV disinfection: Place the sponge in a UV sterilizer and use UV light for a period of time. Ultraviolet light has a germicidal effect and can effectively destroy bacteria on the surface of the sponge. Follow the instructions for use to operate the UV sterilizer and avoid direct exposure to UV light.

5.Replace the sponge regularly: Regardless of the disinfection method, the sponge will slowly wear out and grow bacteria over time and use. Therefore, regular replacement of the sponge is an important measure to maintain hygiene. It is generally recommended to replace the sponge every 3-4 weeks to ensure cleaning effectiveness and hygienic implementation.

Regardless of which method you use, pay attention to the following:

1.Before cleaning and disinfecting the sponge, thoroughly clean food debris and grease to prevent bacteria from growing on the remaining food.

2.Use appropriate cleaning tools, such as gloves or brushes, to prevent bacteria from touching the sponge directly with your hands.

3.Keep the sponge dry. A moist environment is conducive to bacterial growth, so after using the sponge, place it in a well-ventilated area to dry.

Please note that the above method is suitable for sponges for general household use. For professional venues or cases with special needs, please refer to the relevant guidelines or consult a professional. Keeping the sponge clean and hygienic is an important measure to ensure a clean and healthy home.
