Shanghai, China, December 20, 2023 – At the OceanProtect data protection launch event on December 20, Huawei unveiled its flagship all-flash backup appliance and announced that its backup software is open source to meet the new demands for data backup efficiency and data security in scenarios such as smart finance and autonomous driving, and to escort the digital transformation of enterprises. In the era of digital economy, data has become an important means of production. The emergence of new applications such as AIGC and containers has generated massive amounts of unstructured data, which also put forward higher requirements for data protection performance and scale. In addition, data security has expanded from traditional anti-physical damage to human-caused damage represented by anti-ransomware attacks. New applications, new data, and new security have brought new challenges to the data backup industry.
Dr. Zhou Yuefeng, Vice President and President of Huawei's Data Storage Product Line, gave a comprehensive explanation of Huawei's data backup strategy. He pointed out that at present, China's data backup awareness is weak, the backup architecture and core technology of backup software are backward, the proportion of data backup in key industries is low, and there are great hidden dangers in national and industry data security. To this end, Huawei will continue to invest in core storage technologies, build core capabilities for all-flash backup, and open source and share backup software technologies to ensure data security in China through "storage" and "backup" and advanced data backup. Huawei has made breakthroughs in flash memory-native architecture design, data reduction algorithms, backup software, and more. The Oceanprotect X9000 All-Flash Performance Backup Appliance and OceanProtect E8000 All-Flash Distributed Backup Appliance have an industry-leading data reduction rate of 65% and support six layers of anti-ransomware protection to enhance endogenous storage security. Among them, Oceanprotect X9000 can support 130TB HR backup bandwidth and 72TB HR recovery bandwidth, ranking first in the industry in backup performance. Oceanprotect E8000, a single node provides 144PB logical capacity, which can be flexibly scaled up to 4096 nodes. Huawei's open-source Open-eBackup ecosystem will be open source to provide customers with a wide range of software and hardware ecosystems.
1. Open backup software user experience. Huawei has extensive experience in open source operations, and the open-ebackup project will accelerate the development of technologies, talents, and standards in the backup industry, leading the positive cycle of the industry. In the future, Huawei will connect industry, academia, research and application through the open source community to achieve technology sharing, promote full communication and iteration between the first end and the demand side, work with community members to formulate unified specifications for backup interfaces, and work with data protection standards organizations to promote the implementation of industry standards. To date, Huawei has provided secure and reliable data protection services to more than 10,000 enterprise customers in more than 120 countries and regions around the world. In the future, Huawei will share backup software technology, work with industry partners to build a comprehensive technology ecosystem, build a leading backup appliance system, and promote the upgrading of China's data protection industry.
