Zhang Chengyu brutally attacked them with rebar bars and kitchen knives, killing six people on the spot and seriously injuring two others.
Zhang Chengyu absconded after committing the crime, and successively wandered to Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hebei, Shandong, Guizhou and other places, disguised his identity and disguised himself as a mute, and made a living doing odd jobs in the local area. In December 2020, he was arrested in Nanchang, Jiangxi. After trial, the court held that Zhang Chengyu's actions constituted the crime of intentional homicide, sentenced him to death, deprived him of political rights for life, and reported to the Supreme People's Court for approval. After review, the Supreme People's Court held that Zhang Chengyu's crime was extremely serious and that it was difficult to escape the responsibility for the crime, upheld the original verdict in accordance with law, and issued an order for the execution of the death penalty.
