"Caravaggio and the Baroque Miracle".
Countdown to the opening
The 2023 Grand Opening Exhibition of the Museum of Art Pudong, "Caravaggio and the Baroque Miracle", will open on December 12.
This will be the first Caravaggio themed exhibition in China, and it is planned to exhibit six Caravaggio works, including "The Boy with the Fruit Basket" and "St. John the Baptist". At the same time, the exhibition will bring more than 50 works by other Baroque artists.
As one of the most revolutionary artists in the history of Western art, Caravaggio set off a new wave in European art after the Renaissance, and his artistic attainments were so high that art historians named the artistism after him. Today, his works are in the collections of the Louvre, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and many other world-renowned art institutions. In his 38 years of life, he left behind only a handful of surviving works, and the works available for loan and exhibition are extremely limited.
This exhibition is co-organized by the Museum of Art Pudong and the Borghese Gallery in Rome. Located in Rome, Italy, the Borghese Art Gallery is housed in the magnificent Villa Borghese. One of the most extensive museums in the city of Rome, its collection includes ancient sculptures, bas-reliefs, mosaics, and paintings and sculptures spanning the 15th to the 19th centuries.
Even in Rome, where there are many monuments of civilization, the Borghese Gallery is a popular cultural and artistic destination. Many visitors come here from all over the world, eager to catch a glimpse of the museum's unrivalled collection of national treasures. The Borghese Gallery, on the other hand, can accommodate no more than 360 people at a time, and the duration of a single visit is limited to two hours. Therefore, the queue at the entrance of the museum is like a long queue all year round.
It is reported that the Museum of Art Pudong has specially prepared a number of surprise activities for the opening of the exhibition, including: joining hands with the Bund Sightseeing Tunnel to launch a limited-time discount coupon ticket and Caravaggio special train, a number of special tickets for the exhibition, and a number of exclusive privileges for MAP members. At the same time, Francesca Cappelletti, director of the Borghese Museum, will also appear at MAP on the occasion of the opening of the exhibition, leading the audience to appreciate the charm of Caravaggio and Baroque art in various forms.
