China News Service, Brussels, December 13 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Mission to the European Union responded to the European Parliament's adoption of the report on China relations and Taiwan-related resolutions on December 13, stressing that China-EU relations should not be held hostage by ideology and geopolitics, and urging the European Parliament to do more things that are beneficial to the development of China-EU relations.

A reporter asked, on December 12, the plenary session of the European Parliament adopted a report on China relations and a resolution on "EU-Taiwan" investment relations. The report said that the EU should review and update its 2019 strategy for relations with China in light of the new geopolitical context. The resolution calls on the EU to sign an investment agreement and a resilient chain agreement with Taiwan, and supports Taiwan's participation in international forums. Do you have any comment?

A spokesperson for the Chinese Mission to the EU said that the relevant reports and resolutions, on the one hand, consider China to be a partner of the EU, and on the other hand, greatly exaggerate the differences in ideology and values between China and the EU, highlight the two sides as systemic rivals, and even falsely claim that China has taken the initiative to shift the core of China-EU relations to institutional rivals. This argument is not conducive to improving and developing China-EU relations, and China cannot agree with it.

The spokesman stressed that the relevant reports and resolutions arbitrarily discuss China's political, economic, social and foreign policies, attack and smear Chinese's human rights situation on the basis of bias and lies, point fingers at Taiwan, Xinjiang, Tibet, Hong Kong and Macao, seriously infringe on China's sovereignty, interfere in China's internal affairs, and violate the basic norms governing international relations and European political commitments.

The spokesperson said that 2023 marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the China-EU Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. As two major powers, two major markets and two major civilizations, China and the EU have the responsibility to work together to provide more stability to the world and more impetus for development. In particular, China-EU relations should not be hijacked by ideology and geopolitics, as conflict and confrontation will do more harm than good to both sides and the world.

The spokesperson pointed out that during the discussion at the plenary session of the European Parliament, some parliamentarians stressed that China is an important partner of the EU, and called on the EU to enhance dialogue and properly handle differences, and these objective and rational voices should not be buried by the noise based on ideological bias and disinformation. China urges the European Parliament to view China's development and progress in a comprehensive and objective manner, abide by international law and basic norms governing international relations, stop interfering in China's internal affairs, stop making irresponsible remarks, and do more things that are beneficial to the development of China-EU relations.
