Beijing News (Reporter Wu Tingting) On January 8, the reporter learned from the 2024 Chaoyang District "Two Sessions" that the Pingjin Gate repair project will be completed this year. The reporter learned from the Chaoyang District Bureau of Culture and Tourism that the Pingjin Gate is located in the northwest of Gaobeidian Village, Chaoyang District, and is a relatively well-preserved ancient gate of the Yuan Dynasty.

According to the relevant person in charge of the Chaoyang District Culture and Tourism Bureau, the Pingjin Gate is in the shape of a swallow's wing, and the huge rectangular stones are stacked in an orderly manner. Gate length 139 meters, symmetrical embankment on both sides 5444 meters, the south side of the embankment covers an area of 780 square meters, and the north side of the residual embankment covers an area of more than 400 square meters.

The Pingjin lock is an important historical witness of the ancient Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, with two locks, upper and lower, alternately taking off and landing, solving the problem of upstream waterway transportation against the current. Today's ships on and off the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River still use this principle.
