Do you know about the cold springs of the ocean? It is a submarine natural gas leakage, mostly distributed on the seabed of the continental margin, mysterious and precious. Xiaobu learned from Shanghai Ocean University that within 8 days from December 4, Dr. Gong Shanggui, Dr. Wang Xudong, and Fu Jianrong, a doctoral student, young teachers from Professor Feng Dong's team of the university, carried the "Exploration II" scientific research ship and the "Deep Sea Warrior" manned deep submersible of the Institute of Deep-Sea Science and Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and organized TS2-30-3 voyages to the "Seahorse" cold spring to explore the bottom, and successfully completed the first batch of South China Sea cold spring manned deep diving missions of Shanghai Ocean University.
Gong Shanggui exited the cabin.
Wang Xudong introduced that in 8 days of operation, the team completed 6 scientific research tasks, with a maximum depth of 1432 meters. "We work intensively, each dive lasts more than eight hours, and it takes at least ten hours to complete the pre-treatment, testing and preservation of the samples collected from each dive. Gong Shanggui introduced, "Deep diving puts forward high requirements for equipment maturity, team members' psychological and physiological state, and team cooperation. The members of the deep diving voyage not only overcame the unfavorable working conditions at sea, but also broke through the limit of their capabilities, completed two dives within 24 hours, and completed the established diving tasks and goals with quality and quantity. ”
The team of Shanghai Ocean University collected a total of 50 sediment cannulations from different cold seep habitats, more than 60 kg of massive and chimney-shaped cold seep carbonate rocks, more than 10 kinds of biological types (> 40kg), and more than 1,000 pore water samples. ”
In addition, this voyage also carried out testing work on the full-sea depth in-situ cultivation and sampling device independently developed by Shanghai Ocean University, and completed the first observation experiment of environmental oxygen consumption flux of cold seeps in China, filling the gap in the evaluation of environmental oxygen consumption flux of submarine cold seeps in China.
Manned deep diving, with the deep integration of science and technology, has become the development direction of marine science in the new era. "This voyage was a successful deep dive, and we also successfully completed the team's 'passing and helping'. Professor Feng Dong introduced that the Research Center for Extreme Ocean Processes and Resources of Shanghai Ocean University has an excellent diving team. As early as 2002, Professor Chen Duofu, the director of the center, conducted a field investigation of cold seeps and hydrates in the Gulf of Mexico through a manned deep submersible, and Professor Feng Dong was one of the first members of the Jiaolong to dive on the first experimental application voyage in 2013. In this scientific expedition, Dr. Gong Shanggui, as the executive chief of the voyage, and Dr. Wang Xudong, a core member, joined the diving team and became a new generation of deep diving scientists.
