Xin Yuan, China's youngest female major, received the rank at the age of 22. Xin Yuan is a staff officer of the Chinese Women's Peacekeeping Army and the Combat Engineering Service of UNIFIL Command. She was assigned to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon as a Senior Demining Staff Officer of the Combat Engineering Branch of the Command and was the only female UNIFIL staff officer responsible for mine clearance operations. She is responsible for the formulation of the mine-clearance plan and the supervision and management of the mine-clearing operations of the troops.
In order to accomplish this task with high standards, Major Xin Yuan took great risks and went deep into the minefield with the mine-clearing detachment to conduct reconnaissance and personally grasp the first-hand situation, so as to draw up a thorough plan for clearing and platooning. In the end, she completed the mine-clearing task 34 days ahead of schedule, clearing more than 1,500 square meters of minefields. As a result, she was awarded the Certificate of Honour for her "Military Gender Advocate Award" by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon for her professionalism and dedication in the arduous and dangerous work of demining.
Major Xin Yuan was admitted to the military academy after graduating from high school, and has been engaged in combat engineering-related work on the front line after graduating with a master's degree. Her professional knowledge and practical experience led her to attain the rank of major at a young age. In addition, she performed well in her work as a senior demining staff officer in the Combat Engineering Service of the Command of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, which may have contributed to her attainment of the rank of major.
