TSMC Huawei has a complete showdown, and Sino-US relations have fallen into new uncertainty

TSMC is one of the largest foundries in the world, and Huawei is one of the main foundry manufacturers of TSMC chips. The two companies have a long-standing business relationship, but with the strengthening of sanctions on Huawei by the former, TSMC has also been affected to some extent. After the former United States banned any company from using American technology to supply Huawei, TSMC was also forced to suspend its foundry for Huawei.

But then TSMC indicated that it would not be affected after losing Huawei's order. Orders from Apple, Qualcomm, Nvidia and other U.S. companies quickly filled the gap. But TSMC's revenue has been declining, and the trend hasn't changed.

With the failure of TSMC Huawei foundry for many years, Huawei has insisted on increasing R&D investment, and it seems that its dependence on TSMC is not so high, and it is time for the two sides to say goodbye.

First of all, when there are no restrictions, TSMC has a good time. Apple and Huawei are TSMC's largest customers, with revenue from both companies exceeding 10%, with Apple accounting for about 20% and Huawei possibly 1About 5%. For TSMC, both customers cannot afford to lose.

In fact, if Huawei's mobile phone business had swept the world as it did at the time, TSMC's revenue would certainly be higher. However, after the United States revised the chip law, TSMC was unable to do OEM for its Huawei. This also directly caused TSMC to lose more than $50 billion a year. Although it is said that the orders of American companies can be completed quickly, over-reliance on the American side will lead to the loss of their right to speak. This is also the reason why TSMC had to go to the United States to build a factory.

After TSMC announced that it would build a factory in the United States, TSMC's dream completely turned into a nightmare. To build a factory in the United States, not to mention the cost, the first chain and talents alone are enough for TSMC to drink a pot. However, TSMC can slowly solve these problems, but it is not so easy to get subsidies to attract TSMC to build factories in the United States. These conditions of the old US subsidy can be said to have hit TSMC's heart directly. For example, the mainland cannot expand advanced manufacturing processes, and subsidies need to allow employees in American factories to provide free childcare, and so on.

The reason why TSMC went to the United States to build a factory in the first place was to obtain subsidies on the one hand, and on the other hand, it wanted to exchange for the lifting of Huawei's export restrictions. However, due to the escalation of old US sanctions, coupled with harsh subsidy conditions, TSMC may eventually become"The bamboo basket is empty"。

Recently, in an interview, Zhang Zhongmou also spent a lot of money, saying that he agreed with the United States to suppress and sanction China's chips, which is equivalent to agreeing that Zhang Zhongmou has completely froze.

Therefore, the above signs indicate that TSMC will no longer help Huawei produce Kirin cores, but it also directly indicates that the two sides have officially parted ways and will never be separated.

Second, Huawei is accelerating"De-glorification"。TSMC went to the United States to build a factory, and then American companies filled the empty orders. Huawei's insistence on self-examination is aimed at getting rid of its dependence on the West once and for all.

Huawei's Yu Chengdong has publicly said that he regretted not arranging the chip manufacturing process at the beginning, which led to the current situation. But let's look back, at that time, the global semiconductor industry chain was relatively perfect, and various chip manufacturers were going their own way. Like Apple, Qualcomm, and Huawei are all top-notch in terms of design. And Samsung and TSMC are top in manufacturing. However, Huawei started backward, and Kirin Core is a household name, which is not easy.

Faced with the situation that no cores are available, Huawei's mobile phone business revenue is naturally not optimistic. On the contrary, it has continuously increased its investment in research and development, and strives to accelerate the process of de-glorification in all aspects.

As Huawei continues to increase its scientific research efforts, it has also brought us a lot of good news. Ren Zhengfei said some time ago that Huawei has completed 1Repeated R&D of 30,000 electronic devices and 4,000 circuit boards. For a period of time, through the report of Japan**, in the process of disassembling Huawei's 5G equipment and mobile phones, our domestic substitution is also deepening.

In addition, Huawei has also obtained 78 software and hardware through domestic alternative R&D, and recently cooperated with other domestic companies to develop industrial EDA software of 14nm and above, which was fully verified at the end of this year.

For a period of time, through the revelations of our industry insiders, Huawei is also about to launch the Kirin 710A with 14nm process manufactured by the Chinese, but this news has not been officially certified, but it is certain that Huawei has been increasing research and development efforts to overcome the limitations of chips.

Through these resources, we can understand that after the loss of Huawei, TSMC's life was not as good as we imagined. Huawei, on the other hand, has been working hard to promote the process of internal generation. Now, Huawei's dependence on Meixin has been actively reduced, and there is no illusion of TSMC merger, so some foreign media said: The two have completely parted ways and are saying goodbye to each other.
