From 1959 to 1975, New China implemented a total of 7 amnesties for Kuomintang war criminals, and unlike the previous ones, the last amnesty in 1975 was a full amnesty, of which 10 people were allowed to go to Taiwan, they were all former Kuomintang generals, but what they did not expect was that the Taiwan authorities refused to accept them, and finally caused a tragedy, which is really embarrassing.
In 1959, before the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, China had already determined the policy of peacefully resolving the Taiwan issue, and in accordance with the instructions of the People's Republic of China, we carried out the first round of amnesty for Kuomintang war criminals who had performed well in the reform, and released 33 war criminals, including Du Yuming, a senior Kuomintang general.
From then until 1966, there was an amnesty almost every year in our country, namely: in November 1960, 50 people were amnestied; In December 1961, 68 people were amnestied; In April 1963, 35 people were amnestied, in December 1964, 53 people were amnestied, and in April 1966, 57 people were amnestied.
After that, due to some special reasons, it was not until 1975, under the repeated care of Prime Minister ***, that the amnesty was resumed. ** made it clear that "a group of war criminals have been laid down for more than 20 years, what are they still doing with them?".Set them free, come and go freely. "Initially, Deputy Prime Minister *** and others, after research, submitted a preliminary list recommending that 13 people remain in custody and that the others could be released. But after seeing the list, he instructed: "It's all gone...... forget it."The spirit is too small!"It can be seen that *** has a big heart.
Thus, in 1975, our country granted its last amnesty, releasing all prisoners of war, a total of 293 prisoners of war. According to the amnesty decree, each of these 293 people will be given civil rights, and they will be given jobs organizationally and receive publicly funded medical treatment if they are sick. If you are willing to go to Taiwan, we will not only make it difficult, but also give you enough travel expenses, even if you want to come back after going, we are welcome.
As soon as the news of the amnesty was announced, it caused huge repercussions at home and abroad, and the happiest were of course these war criminals, who thanked the party and the party for their leniency, and some representatives of the war criminals were also received by the party and others, and our party also organized all the amnesty personnel to visit Beijing, and they were all pleasantly surprised by the tremendous changes in New China.
After the amnesty, most of these people were resettled in various provinces and cities, and only 10 people applied to go to Taiwan. These 10 people are all former Kuomintang generals, among them, Wang Bingyue, Chen Shizhang, Wang Yunpei, Zhou Yanghao, Duan Kewen, Zhang Haishang, Yang Nancun, and Zhang Tieshi are going to Taiwan, mainly because either their parents, wives, or children are in Taiwan, thinking that the whole family can be reunited. Among them, Chen Shizhang was 74 years old at the time.
The whereabouts of Zhao Yixue's wife are unknown, but his uncle and aunt are in Taiwan, so he also said that he wants to go to Taiwan. The other is Tsai Xingsan, the youngest of 10 people, only 56 years old at the time, his wife is in the mainland, and he applied to go to Taiwan to visit friends.
Their application was quickly approved, not only did they pay enough for the journey, but on April 11, Tong Xiaopeng, then vice minister of the Ministry of **, held a banquet for them. Two days later, 10 people flew directly to Guangzhou. In Guangzhou, he was also cordially received by the provincial party committee and provincial leaders, Wang Bingyue said excitedly, "We have committed a lot of crimes in the past, during the period of detention, food and accommodation are good, and we can get timely when we are sick. "After the meeting, our staff also gave each of them 2,000 yuan for the journey, plus a new set of clothes.
On April 14, 10 people arrived in Shenzhen by train and arrived in Hong Kong at 1 p.m. How much they wished they wanted to set foot on the treasure island of Taiwan immediately and meet their relatives and friends. As a result, what they were waiting for was not a warm welcome from the Kuomintang authorities, but a rejection of the human touch.
The Kuomintang authorities went so far as to say that they did not care about the 10 amnesty demeaners and that if they wanted to come to Taiwan, they could only enter Taiwan as refugees. It turned out that at that time, the Kuomintang authorities were villainous and regarded the goodwill of the mainland as a strategy of our party, and they were worried that these 10 people came to Taiwan with a special mission, that is, to publicize the good policies of the mainland in Taiwan.
For many years, the Kuomintang has continued to smear the mainland and fabricate all kinds of lies against the Taiwan people, and they are really worried that after these 10 people come to Taiwan, the lies they have painstakingly fabricated for many years will be completely exposed, and then the Taiwan people will understand the truth of the matter and will oppose the rule of the Kuomintang, and this is what they are most worried about.
In the face of the Kuomintang's ruthlessness and cold-bloodedness, these 10 people had to stay in Hong Kong temporarily, but they still had a glimmer of hope for the Kuomintang, and wanted to put pressure on the Kuomintang and some friends in Taiwan to make the Kuomintang conscience find out and allow them to go to Taiwan. In fact, some former high-ranking Kuomintang generals did come forward to denounce the inhumane acts of the Kuomintang authorities, and in an interview on 25 April, Song Xilian said that these people had all worked for the Kuomintang in the past and that they should be brought back, and the attitude of the Taiwan authorities was infuriating.
However, the Kuomintang authorities were unmoved, and not only did they not pick up the family for more than a month, but they also forbade their families to visit them in Hong Kong, which really broke everyone's hearts. Seeing that the visa was about to expire, the 10 people became more and more anxious, not knowing what to do.
What's even more infuriating is that at the beginning of June, the Kuomintang sent someone to take Zhang Tieshi to live alone in a hotel, during which he was interrogated in various ways, and slandered Zhang Tieshi's son in front of him for coming to Taiwan to engage in ** and so on. He was so incredulous at these actions of the Kuomintang authorities that he had a complete mental breakdown, and in order to prove his innocence, he committed suicide in anger after leaving a suicide note. Unexpectedly, the Taiwan authorities prevented his relatives from going to Hong Kong to handle his funeral, and it was not until 11 July that his ashes were allowed to go to Taiwan.
What happened to Zhang Tieshi completely exposed the ugly features of the Kuomintang authorities in Taiwan. August 25, Cai Province.
3. Zhao Yixue held a press conference and shouted to Taiwan again, but still did not receive a response. Since then, they have completely lost their faith.
At this time, Beijing issued an instruction that the nine people who stayed in Hong Kong could still come back if they wanted to return to the mainland, and after they returned, we would still arrange work for them, and if they wanted to go to foreign countries, we would also actively assist them, and even help provide travel expenses.
In the end, Yang Nancun, Zhang Haishang, and Zhao Yixue chose to return to New China, and were properly resettled, and went to work in the CPPCC in Sichuan, Hubei, and Shanghai.
Cai Xingsan chose to stay in Hong Kong, and with the active efforts of the mainland, he obtained the status of "permanent resident" of Hong Kong in 1982, where he became a writer, through his own pen, recalling history, describing the changes in New China, and expressing expectations for the reunification of the motherland. The remaining five went to the United States one after another.
In this way, the 10 amnesty war criminals were supposed to spend their old age in Taiwan, but they went their separate ways and even parted with each other in life and death, and some of them never saw each other again in their lives, which has to be said to be a pity.
