In 2018, Huang Jiankai came to HKUST to study for graduate school with enthusiasm, and at a group meeting shortly after the start of the semester, his mentor talked about the inadequacy of the means for front-line troops to deal with problems in the research group, which allowed him to discover the "new world".
This problem is a difficult problem that has been exhausted by the front-line troops in recent years, and the conventional way of dealing with it requires a lot of manpower and material resources and cannot be solved well. Listening to the instructor's words, Huang Jiankai fell into deep thought. "Teacher, I want to give it a try. Before the task was assigned, Huang Jiankai took the initiative to ask Ying and took over this "hot potato".
However, there are very few research data in this direction. In order to get out of the predicament, he asked his mentors and instructors for advice, "You must first understand the actual operational needs of the troops, and then conduct data analysis." The mentor's words woke him up, and he decided to go to the field experiment to collect first-line data first.
During that time, in addition to doing experiments in the field, I was working with data. Six months later, Huang Jiankai finally solved the problem, which not only improved the accuracy of detection and identification, but also optimized and improved the performance of the system in all aspects.
In order to let the equipment serve the troops as soon as possible, Huang Jiankai "bringed" a "new radar" designed by himself to participate in an actual combat Xi. However, not long after the test began, Huang Jian's development of a realistic military confrontation environment was more complicated than he imagined, which made the radar he designed a little "confused".
That's too much worse than the outcome. The first time he saw the screen full of false alarms, Huang Jiankai was a little flustered. After quickly investigating the cause, he quickly calmed down, immediately adjusted the algorithm, and optimized the settings according to the background characteristics of the geographical environment. After a period of research, he and his team finally perfected the algorithm and system before the Xi exercise, and successfully completed the Xi. When they saw that the system developed by Huang Jiankai could efficiently and accurately achieve the expected goals, the front-line officers and men said bluntly: "This has really solved a big problem for our front-line troops." After returning to school, Huang Jiankai unexpectedly received the system application certificate and thank you letter from the Xi unit, looking at the application certificate, he burst into tears, "Using the knowledge he has learned to solve practical problems for the army is a real sense of gain." ”
