Forty-five years ago, at the beginning of April 1978, the weather in Mosuo Bay, Shihezi, Xinjiang, was already a bit of spring. Branches sprouted around the company. The 148th Regiment of the Eighth Agricultural Division of the Xinjiang Corps (then named) decided to send some employees to the secondary station of the Hongshan Mahe Power Station in Shihezi.

After the mobilization of the 20th Company of our institute, I worked for less than a year, and I was not yet 20 years old, so I knew that this task was rather arduous. But I thought: it's also a good opportunity to exercise for yourself.

I applied to the party branch of the company to sign up. After approval, I was decided to form a squad leader of 12 people for this construction. Then, with our luggage, we traveled dozens of kilometers on a tractor to our destination.

Here, from east to south, there are crimson mountains. The north-south direction of the east is about 20 to 60 meters wide, more than 420 kilometers long, and the flow of the Ma River, which is more than one meter deep, flows out from the depths of the northern foot of the Tianshan Mountains and flows rapidly to the north.

The task of the construction team of the third battalion where we belong is to build a long section of aqueduct to bring water from the Ma River and build a secondary power station for power generation.

There are no trees and grass at the station and site, and everywhere is bare. We live on bunks in the ground, which shows the harshness of the environment.

From time to time, the station and the construction site appear everywhere, colorful and different colors of large and small stones, inlaid with slogans such as: "Fight the sky and fight the Ma River Water Conservancy Project", "Seize the time to seize the progress and complete the task as soon as possible".

I had never been in the army, but I longed for the military life. Our daily routine is carried out by the loudspeaker of the regimental construction headquarters: "Dada, Dida.......", the loud military horn is broadcast. Every time I heard the sound of this military trumpet, I felt like a warrior, and I had the urge to charge into battle.

When the material was relatively scarce, the party committee of the regiment took special care of our construction team members, and the monthly ration increased from 40 catties to 50 catties. The proportion of fine grains has changed from 15% per month to 100%. Sometimes we can eat meat and vegetables and beat our teeth, and the improvement of living conditions warms our hearts and inspires our motivation to work.

Our class first worked under the "Unity Bridge" of the big canal, and the bridge was built ahead of schedule. The task now is to dig out the earth with a pickaxe and a shovel, and then use the shovel to load the basket into the basket and pick it up to the embankment. The red clay here is hard, and a pickaxe is a white mark. The difficulty of labor can be imagined. I worked with the whole class, and I insisted on doing it with blood blisters and calluses on my palms during labor. After more than half a month of hard work, the task was completed.

I love to write, and I write down some typical deeds in a timely manner from the hard-working and hard-working comrades of the 23rd Company and other friendly and neighboring units, and send them to the regiment's construction command for broadcast and publicity.

By the end of June, the ditch we had dug had taken shape, and a spring of water was gushing out at the bottom of the ditch. The construction team did not have a pump, and the leadership decided to manually drain the water. Captain Zhu Wanchun entrusted this arduous task to our class.

At nine o'clock in the evening, I took the whole class with the basin and began the hard work of draining. Even though it was getting dark, we were still sweating. After 12 hours of hard work, the task was finally completed at 9 o'clock the next morning.

The canal was successfully completed at the end of June. During this period, the regimental construction headquarters commended outstanding comrades, and I was awarded the "first-class assaulter" and "second-class assaulter" once.

Although 45 years have passed, the loud sound of the military horn on the water conservancy site on the bank of the Mahe River lingers in my ears from time to time, making me unforgettable ......
