Hi is in control of the rebounding ball and is in control of destiny.
Combined with this season's performance, the MVP-level Embiid is still in excellent form, but compared to last season, the current fan discussion of him seems to be a little too bleak. And the reality is that his form this season is completely inferior to anyone, and even he has the strength to win the MVP trophy in a row.
In the intra-team comparison, Embiid's discussion is not even as hot as that of teammate Maxey, of course, we can understand this, Maxey has been in a steady improvement since entering the league. Especially after Harden left the 76ers in the offseason, Maxey got more autonomy on the offensive end and took over the responsibility of the team's guard core.
However, we should keep an eye on Embiid outside of Maxey, who is currently averaging 34 points per game after a quarter-quarter of the regular season has been completed4 points, ranking first in the league's scoring list.
There have been quite a few highlights this season, the most recent of which was against the Wizards in December, where he scored 50 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists on the spot, which was the fourth time in his career that he had at least 50 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists in a single game, tying the franchise record set by legendary Wilt Chamberlain in Philadelphia.
It doesn't seem to have received much attention for such a prominent performance, which is understandable. For an MVP-level superstar like Embiid, many fans will take it for granted that he has played a historical statistical performance. A star player like Jokic or Doncic averaging a triple-double per game this season doesn't seem to be too difficult to do.
By the way, Doncic scored 29 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the first 24 minutes of the half against the Jazz in December, the best half-time triple-double in NBA history.
In the past, James was also regarded as a common thing by fans because he played a lot of historical performances. Now, at the age of 39, he's been consistent enough in his 21st season of career, but many fans seem to overlook how good he is at this age.
For these superstars, it always seems that after Xi getting used to their strength, the outside world will not be as surprised by the superman-level stats they play as they did at the beginning, and now, Embiid seems to be entering that stage.
Combined with the stats, Embiid's performance this season is clearly better and more consistent than when he won the MVP trophy last season, but the response to this has not increased.
In the past month or so, Embiid has scored less than 30 points in just four games, and three of those four games have scored 26, 27 and 28 points. On November 28, against the Lakers who were overwhelmed by James Mei, Embiid scored 30 points and 11 assists in a single game. His assist stats have grown particularly significantly this season. So far, Embiid has averaged six assists per game, a career-high high.
Also an MVP-caliber big man, Embiid's assists are different from Jokic's, and he doesn't use some clever no-look passes to teammates in open positions after attracting opponents to wrap them up. Embiid has been using hand-to-hand passes on the court more frequently since new head coach Nick Nurse took charge of Philadelphia, averaging more than six more touches per game than last season after his teammates carried the ball to halfcourt.
Now, all five players on the court are able to participate in the team's tactics when attacking, and use Embiid as the receiving center to find the best offensive players and scoring opportunities. In Embiid's hand-to-hand pass tactics, he was able to score 106 points per 100 possessions. Last season, the 76ers scored just 99 points per 100 possessions on this tactic.
When Embiid is on the floor, 34 percent of the team's scoring is done with his involvement, and the assists ratio ranks second in the league among all big men, behind Jokic of the Denver Nuggets. Although his individual jump shooting statistics are not particularly amazing, his face-frame singles are still an absolutely unsolvable offensive weapon, and the number of fouls on the offensive end of the free throw line is still far ahead of other players in the league.
Frankly speaking, for Embiid this season, we still put him in the power gear of dominating the league, even if fans have become Xi to take his excellent performance for granted, but it is undeniable that under the change of new coach Nas, Embiid has begun to rise to another level of top superstar, and we should not even ignore the championship potential that his team has.
