Why did I write this book?
Because I don't have long to live, and when I die, all the experiences stored in my mind will disappear, like wiping them with a big eraser. Something deep inside me screamed, "Oh no!At least some of them will be saved!”
Natural, truthful, and calm with a touch of humor, this is how Asir finished his book "Unabridged", which means: to restore deleted text.
Title: "Unabridged".
Author: English Diana Asir.
Release: Hou Lang.
When I read Asir's memoir "Twilight Will End", written at the age of 91, I was attracted to such a sober and independent woman. Unabridged, published before The End of Twilight, is a review of her work and a short biography of six writers, and Asir's insight into personnel and sincerity of words make this book a unique read.
Reading is something that people do indoors, just like horseback riding is something that is done outdoors, and it's an important part of life, not just a pleasure. ”
Asir was born into a family with a strong reading atmosphere, and his father told them from an early age that "you have to make a living for yourself." Asir thus had such an unusual sensitivity to words that as an adult, she did not choose the job that women were supposed to do at the time, but the job she loved – editing.
The only thing I really wanted to immerse myself in was the selection and editing of books. ”
As the editor of the publishing house, Asir revealed that he only spends money and is not good at making money, so he is willing to be "taken advantage of" by Andrei Deutsch, the owner of the "natural publisher".
Asir's take on his work is:
It keeps me doing every day and making enough money to live on;It allows me to meet very interesting people.
The attitude towards work is: even if I like the job, I can't accept after-hours work at all.
In the first half of the book, Asir recalls his experience working at the BBC and the experience of founding a publishing house with Andre, with conflicts, frictions, dissatisfactions, and compromises, and finally to find a way to get along with him.
In the second half, she picks out six writers and recounts her interactions with them, and interestingly her thoughts on the relationship between them
Neither party is obliged to strive for an intimate personal relationship, and if it does blossom from it, it is also a natural development. ”
A writer looks at the editor as a tailor who makes his own clothes, a pleasant person who does a decent job, allowing for a certain degree of intimacy. ”
Asir has never married, she is precise, clear, and knows what she wants and what is right for her. It can be said that she lived her life the way she liked, which is too rare for a woman a hundred years ago, and she is a woman worthy of admiration in any era.
