The construction of the Beijing Grand Canal Museum was officially started on October 28, 2019, located in the northwest of Greenheart Forest Park, a sub-central city of Beijing, adjacent to the innovation and development axis of the Sixth Ring Road. Today, the Grand Canal Museum in Beijing is officially open to the public.
Beijing Grand Canal Museum is located in the northwest of Greenheart, the sub-center of Beijing, with a total construction area of about 9970,000 square meters, composed of a shared hall for audiences, an exhibition building and a leisure water street. The design concept of the museum originates from the three elements of boat, sail and water in the picture of the ancient canal, and uses the canal as a clue to integrate history and culture into the architecture. The roof of the audience sharing hall is taken from the "boat", and the roof of the exhibition building is taken from the "sail". The leisure water street between the two buildings is combined with the street intersections, tents, gatehouses and other elements of the façade of the exhibition building to form a scene similar to the canal barge wharf.
Cui Kai, chief designer of the Grand Canal Museum in Beijing, said: "One is the preface hall and the other is the main museum, which is an open urban park, which can sometimes be used as an outdoor exhibition hall between museums. At that time, I thought that the canal culture must be that there are many shops on the wharf, people come and go, and there are many scenes, including the construction of some cultural relics in the future, which may be placed here to become an open space of the city with museum characteristics. ”
On the occasion of the opening, the Beijing Grand Canal Museum will focus on the close relationship between the Grand Canal and Beijing, with people, water and city as the main content, and display the history and construction achievements of Beijing's urban development from the perspective of human geography and ecological civilization, and launch a series of blockbuster exhibitions.
Guided by Beijing's overall urban planning and closely aligned with Beijing's strategic positioning, it and the Capital Museum jointly interpret the relationship between "capital" and "city" from the perspective of history and culture. The exhibition system consists of four types: basic exhibition, special exhibition, open exhibition, and temporary exhibition.
