Although he was born in Shaoshan Chong, Xiangtan, Hunan, his ancestral home is little known. The ancestor of the Mao family was Mao Taihua in Badu Town, Jishui County, Jiangxi. In the "Shaoshan Mao Clan Genealogy", Mao Taihua's migration experience is recorded. During the Yuan Zhizheng period, Mao Taihua left Jiangxi to avoid chaos, migrated to Lancangwei, Yunnan, and married a local woman, Wang, and gave birth to eight children. Mao Taihua was recruited as a soldier by the Ming Dynasty because of his intelligence and ability, and eventually became a "martial general". However, in order to solve the problem of population emptiness in Hunan and Jiangxi, Zhu Yuanzhang decided to move in from neighboring provinces, and Lancangwei, Yunnan, where Mao Taihua was located, became a population export center.

Although Mao Taihua himself wanted to return to Jiangxi, since most of his comrades-in-arms were from Hunan, he eventually chose to follow them to Hunan. Mao Taihua did not take the whole family to Hunan, but only took his two sons, Mao Qingyi and Mao Qingsi. The rest of the children remained in Yunnan, and Mao Taihua may not know how long they will stay in Hunan, and may even return to Yunnan. At first, Mao Taihua's family lived in Scarlet Ziqiao outside the north gate of Xiangxiang County, but as the number of family members increased, Scarlet Ziqiao could no longer accommodate the whole family, so they moved to Qidu Qijia in Xiangtan County, which was later Shaoshan Chong.

The name "Shaoshan" has a long history. According to legend, in ancient times, Yu Shun, one of the three emperors, had toured south here, and was attracted by the beautiful scenery here, so he asked the musician to play the Shao music "ninety-percent", which attracted many animals to come and watch. Therefore, later generations will call this place "Shaoshan". As soon as the Mao family arrived in Shaoshan, they began to multiply here. After passing to ***, the family is divided into five branches: Zhen, Jian, Chang, Shen, and Shiyang. Later, Chang and Shiyang left, leaving only the three branches of Zhen, Jian, and Shen. ** belongs to Mao Zhen, he is the 16th grandson of Mao Zhen and the 20th grandson of Mao Taihua.

**'s grandfather's name is Mao Enpu, and he has only one son, namely ***'s father, Mao Yichang. Mao Yichang gave birth to 5 sons successively, the first two died young, leaving 3, namely *** Mao ** and Mao Zetan. As for the Mao family who stayed in Lancangwei, Yunnan, they continued to reproduce in the local area, and now they have formed 8 villages, such as Fengyu Maojiawan, West Lake Maojiawan, Hekou Maojia Village, Qinghe Maojiajing, etc., with a total of more than 3,000 people. The Yongsheng Mao clan in Yunnan and the Mao clan in Shaoshan in Hunan both have Mao Taihua as their ancestors and come from the same bloodline. **'s daughter Li Ne even made a special trip to Yongsheng County, Yunnan Province to visit and recognize relatives.
