Start date: As soon as possible (position is limited to three years).
Application Deadline: 2023-12-15
About us
The Ofial Group is active in the field of physical organic chemistry. We like to study the kinetics of organic reactions and use the measured rate constants (from photometry, conductivity, or NMR kinetics) to distinguish between stepwise and synergistic reactions. Through data analysis, we also provide synthetic chemists with the tools for new organic reactions.
We are looking for you
Ph.D. student in the field of physical organic chemistry (Mf X).
in Munich. Your tasks and responsibilities
With the funding of the DFG (German Research Society**) and as part of an international collaboration project with the French National Research Agency (ANR), two doctoral positions will be filled to study different aspects of the dearomatination reaction of electron-poor aromatic compounds.
Your Ph.D. includes:
Synthesis of organic compounds (electron-poor aromatic hydrocarbons and their reactant chaperones).
Structural characterization of new products using spectroscopic methods.
New Reactive System**.
Kinetic measurements of electron-poor aromatic hydrocarbon reactions.
By time-resolved UV VIS (Stopped Flow) spectroscopy, NMR kinetics, or competition experiments.
Under high pressure (with a team from the University of Rouen or the University of Dortmund).
Data analysis using physical organic chemistry tools.
Scientific support from the panelists.
Pursue your own academic qualifications (Ph.D.).
Publication of research results in international journals.
Presentation of the results of the study at a scientific meeting.
Participate in the teaching activities of the Department.
Supervision of master's and bachelor's students.
Xi support.
Your qualifications
University degree (Master's, Master's, State Examination) with distinction in organic chemistry or physical chemistry.
Basic knowledge of laboratory methods in organic chemistry (synthesis, purification, and analysis of organic compounds) is required.
A conscientious and systematic way of working.
Enjoy being part of an international team.
Good level of knowledge of English (additional knowledge of German and/or French will be an advantage).
Pros:
You work at the LMU School of Chemistry and Pharmacy in Munich, one of the leading research institutes in the field of organic chemistry. This research is embedded in an international network of scientists, with many opportunities for collaboration. Thanks to superior research equipment (cryostats, kinetic measurement workstations, stop-flow spectrometers, ITC, HPLC, CYCLIC VOLTAMMETRY, GLOVE BOXES), YOU WILL CONDUCT LEADING INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH.
Actively support research abroad, for example with partners in Rouen or Toulouse, as well as participation in conferences and seminars.
Your workplace is located in the Gro Hadern Hi-Tech Park, which is easily accessible by public transport. Salaries are based on the TV-L E13 tariff. This position aims to obtain a Ph.D. for a three-year term.
We seek to increase the proportion of women in scientific positions and therefore explicitly encourage women to apply.
Preferential treatment will be given to people with disabilities with the same qualifications as other applicants.
