Recently, South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries delivered a 200,000 cubic meter LNG carrier "Clean Destiny" to Dynagas, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipping company owned by Greek ship king George Procopiou.
The "Clean Destiny" has a total length of 2998 meters, width 489 meters, height 269 meters, built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Ulsan Shipyard, equipped with a membrane sealing system and a reliquefaction system developed by GTT in France to reduce gas evaporation. The vessel has signed a charter agreement with US LNG export giant Cheniere Energy for a period of 10 years. Another ship of the same type, Clean Resolution, delivered in September this year, will also be chartered by Cheniere. The order was signed in 2021.
As the "old owner" of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, Dynagas has ordered a number of large LNG carriers from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. In addition to the new vessels ordered in 2021, Dynagas ordered three 200,000 cubic meter LNG carriers from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in 2022, which are expected to be delivered in 2025. In January 2023, the two parties signed a contract for the construction of three 200,000 cubic meters of LNG transportation, and the new ships will be built by Ulsan Shipyard, with a cost of about 2$6.1 billion, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the first half of 2026. It is said that this is the world's first order for LNG carriers in 2023. In May 2023, Dynagas ordered two additional 200,000 cubic meter LNG carriers to the South Korean shipyard, with a cost of about 2The $7.7 billion shipyard, also built by the Ulsan shipyard, is scheduled to be delivered in 2027.
Notably, Dynagas is also the first shipowner to place an order for a 200,000 cubic meter LNG carrier from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. Considering that larger ships are cheaper to transport and can reduce pollutant emissions, Dynagas has increased the size of the ship.
