After the unilateral ruling of the Indian High Court to recover the disputed territory, will China

India's Supreme Court ruled on December 11 that India's so-called "Ladakh** Territory" established in 2019 was legal and valid. However, China's spokesperson Mao Ning responded that this ruling was only unilaterally established by India and cannot change the fact that the western section of the China-India border has always belonged to China. He noted that unilateral actions on the border issue would only further escalate tensions.

The "Ladakh region" in question in the ruling is located in the western part of the disputed territory along the Sino-Indian border and is considered Chinese territory. This area is strategically important, and if it is recovered, it will be located "overhead" of India, and it is also very close to New Delhi, the capital of India; If it is controlled by India, it will directly affect China's Xinjiang and ** region. Therefore, China refuses to recognize the "Ladakh Territory" unilaterally established by India.

India, on the other hand, has tried to forcibly incorporate the "Ladakh region" into its territory with the help of legislation, which shows India's intentions and ambitions for this disputed territory. However, China is firmly determined to safeguard its own interests and resolutely responds to India's actions.

At present, the "Ladakh region" is under the de facto control of India, and there are many military bases built in the vicinity. Leh, the capital of the region, naturally became a source of military and domestic supplies for the forward troops of the Indian army. In addition, India has hosted a G20-related "youth summit" in Leh in an attempt to unilaterally assert its "sovereignty" in front of the international community. However, the Chinese side refused to participate in the summit out of fear of India's forcible seizure of Chinese territory.

Tensions on the Sino-Indian border were once high, but after 20 rounds of commander-level talks, the two sides achieved a certain degree of relaxation, and the main confrontation points also achieved military separation. However, no substantive results have been achieved in resolving the border issue between the two countries.

Although the 20th round of commander-level talks reached some consensus, including maintaining communication through diplomatic and military channels to resolve the border issue as soon as possible, these consensuses did not bring about fundamental changes in the border situation between the two countries. After so many rounds of talks, the border issue still plagues Sino-Indian relations.

India's sudden attack on the border issue may be based on two considerations: on the one hand, India believes that the United States is currently "entangled" due to the involvement of Russia-Ukraine and Palestinian-Israeli conflicts, and has no energy to continue to intervene in disputed issues in other parts of the world, so India wants to take the opportunity to compete for interests, thinking that there is less pressure. On the other hand, China is plagued by issues such as Taiwan and the South China Sea, and its relationship with the United States is very unstable, and India may think that the United States will support its position even if it takes action on the border issue. However, China will never allow foreign forces to interfere in the Sino-Indian border issue, treating it as a matter between the two countries.

China resolutely opposes India's unreasonable demands. India's unilateral actions will only further undermine peace and stability between the two countries. The Chinese side not only expressed its opposition through diplomatic channels, but also resolutely refused to include the "Ladakh region" on China's map. China's position is clear that it does not want to escalate the situation on the border between China and India, but India has not grasped China's goodwill.

Under the current situation, although the Sino-Indian border issue still exists, the two sides have reached some consensus through talks. China will continue to maintain communication with India through diplomatic and military channels, and will resolutely defend its territorial sovereignty and interests while maintaining stability along the border.

To sum up, although the China-India border issue has not yet been resolved, China's determination to resolutely oppose India's unilateral actions and safeguard its own interests is unwavering. China and India should resolve disputes through dialogue on an equal footing, maintain regional stability and cooperation, and create a favorable environment for the development of bilateral relations. At the same time, the international community should also intensify efforts to promote peace talks and jointly promote the peaceful settlement of the Sino-Indian border issue. Only through equal and friendly cooperation can we achieve common prosperity and development in the region.
