Yesterday I was chatting with a friend, and he talked about the custom of his hometown, that is, the custom of having guests at home and women not serving at the table.
I was particularly surprised, what age is this, and there is still such a custom, which is really eye-opening.
A friend said that many years ago, a family went to visit relatives at my uncle's house, which is a third-tier city in the north, and my aunt and cousin were busy in the kitchen after arranging a large table of dishes, everyone happily sat together and prepared to eat, but found that my aunt and cousins were not on the table, and after politely calling a few times, they did not come, so I went to the kitchen to take a look, and found that they had eaten in the kitchen or standing or sitting.
When I asked my uncle what was going on, he replied that it was the custom here, and the guests came to the house, and the women did not eat at the table.
My friend is quite impressed.
Although it is said that in that place, people have agreed to respect a certain custom, but I have a faint feeling that it is unfair and disrespectful to women.
As a family member, why can men sit comfortably on the sofa in the living room, eat snacks, or chat or play with mobile phones, while women should be sweaty and busy talking in the kitchen, and at the end, they are not even qualified to eat at the table?
Not only the "small things" of the guest women at home do not go to the table, many major events have not achieved equality between men and women, some rural areas, the property of parents can only be inherited by sons, and the daughter who marries out is the water that is spilled, some families accept the bride price of their daughters, and then they buy a house and a car for their sons to marry their daughters-in-law, and when they are old, they encounter a contradiction between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, and turn around and take refuge in their daughters, asking for pension, and the house, but only sons can inherit it.
* has been promoting equality between men and women, I can't imagine that the sunshine of equality still can't shine on every part of the world, in the countryside, and even in some cities, there are dark corners that have not completed the equality of men and women, people don't seem to feel inappropriate, some female friends even if they are unwilling, if they don't involve too much property, they will endure it, and even some customs, but also take it for granted, when encountering the problem of property division, secular concepts are still inclined to men, fortunately, we still have more and more perfect laws to protect women.
I don't know if you've seen or heard anything like this.
