On December 8, 2023, the 1st Symposium on Autonomous Driving and Chip Functional Safety, hosted by Shanghai Miaonike Technical Services*** (hereinafter referred to as MUNIK), was successfully held at the Courtyard by Marriott Shanghai Suning Universal. Due to its high-quality technology sharing, the seminar attracted more than 100 practitioners from domestic and foreign OEMs, first- and second-tier parts manufacturers, testing and certification institutions, universities and scientific research institutes in the upstream and downstream of the automotive industry, including Dekra, Sushii, Parasoft, Hejian Gongsoft, Horizon and other upstream and downstream automotive industries.

Zhao Hao, General Manager of MUNIK, delivered a welcome speech for the seminar, and shared the changing trend and understanding of functional safety in the entire automotive field as a practitioner in the field of functional safety with the development process of functional safety in China and some major projects experienced by MUNIK in it.

In recent years, the intelligent automotive industry has been supported by national industrial policies, and in order to continuously accelerate the development of autonomous driving technology, the state has successively issued a number of policies to encourage the development and innovation of the intelligent automotive industry. The "14th Five-Year Plan" Automobile Industry Development Proposal points out that by 2025, the technological innovation, industrial ecology, infrastructure, regulations and standards, product supervision and network security system of China's standard smart cars will be basically formed by giving full play to the leading role of the automobile market, opening up a new situation of globalization of the automobile industry, and striving to achieve the steady growth of the automobile market and the transformation and upgrading of the automobile industry to high-quality development through the efforts of the "14th Five-Year Plan" period.

As automobiles become more and more intelligent, the proportion of "software-defined vehicles" - software in automobiles continues to increase, and the demand for software architecture and computing power is inseparable from the support of hardware chips. At the beginning of product design, autonomous driving and chip R&D companies need to integrate functional safety and information security, and chip design manufacturers also need to take into account AECQ test specifications.

At the MUNIK seminar, Gerhard M., Senior Vice President of Functional Safety at DEKRAMr. Rieger shared the topic of "Current Status and Challenges of Functional Safety and Cybersecurity". Gerhatd demonstrated the number of road traffic fatalities in the world every year, and a longitudinal comparison found that German companies have effectively reduced the number of road traffic fatalities due to strict functional safety requirements. As autonomous driving technology evolves, he also raises concerns that hackers will attack different layers of the vehicle. Gerhatd proposed that the convergence of functional safety, cybersecurity, and SOTIF's intended functional safety can lead to a road safety defense system that does not result in fatalities or serious injuries.

At present, operating systems based on Linux kernels are widely used in autonomous driving computing platforms, and with the development of automotive intelligence and EEA, autonomous driving application scenarios (such as high-speed NOA, urban NOA, etc.) have been implemented, and the share is expected to continue to rise in the future. The demand for functional safety of autonomous driving Linux systems is becoming more and more urgent, and it is necessary to accelerate the corresponding research and practice. This is the point of view mentioned by Mr. Zhang Bin from the Horizon Autonomous Driving Team when he shared the keynote of "Research on the Functional Safety of Autonomous Driving Linux Systems" at the seminar.
