About the winery
Majel Manor (mas d'En Gil is one of the oldest wineries in the region of Catalonia, Spain, in the Priorat wine region. Founded in 1860 by Francesc Gil, Magill has changed hands several times and is now under the control of the Rovira family.

Terroir of the appellation
Due to its Mediterranean climate, the Priolato appellation has long, hot and dry summers with low annual rainfall. There is a characteristic soil called llicorella, which is made up of slate, mica and quartz, which reflects sunlight and stores heat, creating ideal conditions for the growth and ripening of grapes, as well as the special terroir of Priolato.

The vineyards of Magill Estate are located in the Belmont Valley, La Coma Valley, Olive Tree Hollow, Grinyo Valley and The Sas Valley in the Priolato appellation. Grape varieties such as Carignan, Grenache Blanc and Viura.

The winery is committed to producing "the best of the new Priolato with an old-world style", with its 2016 Magill Estate Comavilla Red Wine (MAS D'En Gi Coma Vella, Priorat, Spain) is one such classic. The name "Coma Vella" comes from the Comavilla vineyard, an old vineyard in the Coma Valley, which faces the Mediterranean Sea on both sides and benefits from the cool sea breeze, and the resulting wine exudes woodland, fruit and mineral aromas, giving the impression of walking through a Mediterranean forest in spring, with a fresh and concise palate, supple tannins and a balanced structure.

2016 was a very good vintage for Priorato and an exceptional vintage for Magill Estate. This wine is extremely expressive and powerful, showing ripe aromas and subtle flavors. It has both the simplicity of Priolato and the elegance of a balanced vintage.
