The type and color of the end mill coating on a CNC machine

Mondo Finance Updated on 2024-01-19

The end mill is the most used milling cutter on CNC machine tools, and the end mill has cutting cutters on the cylindrical surface and end face, which can be cut at the same time or separately. It is mainly used for face milling, groove milling, step face milling and profile milling. End mill coatings are widely used in modern manufacturing to not only improve cutting efficiency and reduce energy consumption, but also to extend tool life and improve product quality. There are various types and colors of end mill coatings.

DLC coating:d LC coatings are made of graphite-like materials, which are different from metal coatings and have the advantages of low friction, low wear and extremely high hardness. Its color is deep black and it is suitable for processing materials such as plastics, aluminium and copper.

2.TIN coating: TIN coating is a common coating that is composed of titanium, nitrogen, and has a golden yellow color. Because golden yellow can hide the color of the working surface and is not easy to cause visual fatigue, it is widely used in the machinery manufacturing industry. TIN coating has extremely high hardness and good cutting performance, and can be applied to different materials, such as cast iron, steel, stainless steel, etc.

3.TICN coating: TICN coating is a multi-layer structure composed of titanium, carbon, and nitrogen, which further improves the hardness and wear resistance of the coating on the basis of TIN, so it is more effective when processing high-hardness materials. Its color is purple or dark blue, which can better distinguish the color of the material and facilitate operation.

4.Tialn Coating: Tia1N coating is a mixture of titanium, aluminum, and nitrogen with high hardness, wear resistance, and high temperature stability. Its color is deep purple or black, it can be used for a long time under high temperature conditions, and is suitable for processing heat-resistant materials.

5.PVD coating: PVD coating is a coating formed by physical vapor deposition technology, which can be golden, gun, silver, and other colors. PVD coatings have nanoscale microstructures and hydrophobic properties, making chips easier to detach and reducing heat conduction. It is suitable for processing difficult-to-machine materials and high-temperature materials.

In general, different types of coatings can bring different performance advantages to the end mill, so determine the place where the end mill is used to determine the surface of the end mill to coat different kinds of coatings.
