Sun Yuanliang was born in an ordinary family in Huayang County, Chengdu, Sichuan Province in 1904. When he was young, Sun Yuanliang was sent to a private school early and was admitted to Nanjing Higher Normal University at the age of 18. Only a year later, Sun Yuanliang was admitted to the National University of Political Science and Law. During the Battle of Nanjing, Japanese artillery fire almost divided the entire defensive line, and the positions of the 88th Army almost fell. At this time, Sun Yuanliang had already seen the situation clearly, and led his henchmen to retreat all the way south. However, when he was about to cross the river, Sun Yuanliang accidentally bumped into Song Xilian, the commander of the 36th Division.
