Foreword

Regarding the personal relationship between *** and ***, General Xiao Hua once concluded: **Comrade, who has always been loyal to the great leader, has been following *** for decades since he came to the ranks of the Red Army in 1929, and no matter what setbacks and failures he encountered, he has not shaken his infinite loyalty ......

The first encounter with ***

For the first time I saw *** in my later years, I recalled:

In the spring of 1927, when I was in the Huangpu branch of Wuhan, the chairman gave a lecture to our school, mainly about the "two lakes" at that time. This was also mentioned to me by the Chairman when I came to the Red Army when he learned that I was a student at the above-mentioned school. Of course, I can't remember the details of what was said, and it is impossible for the record to be preserved to this day's ......

It was after meeting *** this time that ** was attracted by ***'s knowledge, and began to slowly pay attention to him, and regarded him as his revolutionary mentor.

In 1927, after graduating from the Wuhan branch, the students of the school were reorganized into the Teaching Corps of the Second Front Army of the Kuomintang, of which he served as the deputy squad leader.

In the subsequent Nanchang Uprising, ** participated in it under the leadership of ** and others. However, with the change of the situation, Zhang Fakui was ordered to disarm when he was in Jiujiang, and it was like this that ** and his classmates left the army and prepared to go to Wuhan.

At that time, he was also deeply influenced by revolutionary ideas and wanted to join the Communist Party.

In Wuhan, ** met Ren Qiyan, a member of the Communist Party, and asked him to join the party. For this young man, Ren Qiyan was very optimistic, so he introduced him to an underground party connector. However, with the rampant reactionary forces, the entire Wuhan area fell into the White Terror, and ** immediately cut off contact with him.

It can be said that the revolutionary belief of *** is very firm, since Wuhan cannot find reliable Communist Party personnel, is it feasible for other cities?

Subsequently, ** went to Hunan, Shanghai and other places to find party organizations. When he was wandering around, he never forgot about the revolutionary leader, and even went to Changde, Hunan Province to look for the party organization.

It was this belief that made *** persistently search for party organizations after the defeat of the Great Revolution. Finally, in October 1928, after he came to Shanghai, he finally found the party organization, and then was sent to western Fujian to participate in the Shanghang Self-Defense Army.

In June 1929, in order to welcome the Red Fourth Army into Fujian, the Jiaoyang guerrillas in western Fujian were organized into the Red 59th Regiment, of which Fu Baicui was the regiment commander and ** was the chief of staff. However, after our "three fights at Longyan", the Red 59th Regiment was reorganized into the fourth column of the Red Fourth Army and became one of the famous Zhu Mao Red Army units, with the first as the chief of staff.

Once, when he was on a mission in Longyan, he met his old classmate Ren Zhaokui, who was the secretary of the former committee of the Red Fourth Army at the time. When the old classmates met, they naturally chatted very happily.

Under the leadership of the other party, ** came to the former committee organ. At that time, ** was talking to two mimeographers. Ren Zhaokui said to ***: "This is Commissar Mao." ”

This is the second time *** has seen ***, and it has been two and a half years since he first met ***. Although this time I still watched from afar, it was still much closer than listening to the speech in Wuhan.

It's a pity that he didn't say a word or two to the front and ***.

Soon after, the Red Fourth Army held its Seventh Party Congress in Longyan. **At this conference, I took a step closer to meet the long-admired ***

At this meeting, there was an intra-party controversy, which was somewhat incomprehensible due to the fact that *** had just come to the Red Army. And ***, who was in the whirlpool of controversy, also did not notice the young man.

After this meeting, ** left the Red Army and went to Jiaoyang to recuperate.

In August 1928, the Red Army conquered Shanghang, and was transferred to the Fifth Detachment of the Second Column as a party representative due to his outstanding performance. At this time, because our troops suffered great losses during the attack on Fujian, and the front committee did not have a first-class leader, there were many mistakes in decision-making.

Therefore, at the Eighth Congress of the Party of the Red Fourth Army, ** like the vast majority of delegates: a strong appeal to *** to return to the Red Fourth Army and reinstate!

In November, the long-awaited *** reconvened the Red Fourth Army to preside over the work, and held many investigation meetings to prepare for the Ninth National Congress of the Red Fourth Army Party.

At a cadre meeting, the first time I noticed *** was probably because he was tall, so I asked him, "You are from the north, right?"”

** replied: "I am from Nanchong, Sichuan." ”

After listening to his answer, ** said with a smile:"Oh, most of the children of Sichuan Xiang are not tall, but you and I are both the eldest sons. Then, ** asked him again for his name and job. This was the first conversation between them, and since then*** has had a nickname "Luo Changzi".

Since *** was a "political cadre" at the time, for this reason, ** had contact with *** almost every day in the following month.

This experience of close contact with *** has had a great impact on ***:

In fact, the process of holding an investigation meeting this month is also a process of learning from the Red Army how to do a good job of investigation and study and how to build the Red Army.

From admiring *** to seeing *** and then participating in the investigation work and meeting preparation under ***, the distance between the two is getting closer and closer, and soon he will be fighting under the command of ***.

In January 1930, the enemy in Jiangxi, Fujian and Guangdong provinces launched the second "encirclement and suppression" campaign against western Fujian. In this operation, ** led the front committee and the second column of the Red Fourth Army to block the enemy in western Fujian.

Although this operation was only half a month, it was the first time that *** worked directly under the leadership of *** himself. **'s words and deeds, ear and face life have taught *** a great lesson, leaving him with an unforgettable impression for a lifetime.

It was after fighting together that ** also had a deeper understanding of *** and had a further understanding of his talent and ability.

Soon after, when the Red Army was reorganized, he was transferred to the political commissar of the Red Fourth Army, and he was replaced as the political commissar of the Red 11th Division.

**'s promotion naturally comes from ***'s appreciation of him.

If it is said that ***'s admiration for *** has been there since the Wuhan branch, and ***'s understanding of him is in the exchanges a few months after the Gutian meeting.

**The understanding of ***, in addition to the insight of knowing people, also has a lot to do with ***'s cheerful and lively character. It is this character that makes the part of *** openness and loyalty unobstructed.

In the early days of the revolution, ** was in need of loyal, frank and capable cadres like ***, plus a cheerful personality, and an optimistic attitude in the face of difficult circumstances.

It can be said that this short period of work experience has forged a lifelong friendship between *** and ***.

Trust in ***

It is in the revolutionary years that the deep understanding of ***, even after the founding of the People's Republic of China, is very trusting.

On May 14, 1949, the 19th Corps was preparing to march to the northwest, and the director of the Political Department of the North China Military Region and the political commissar of the 19th Corps suddenly received a telegram from ***:

When the troops are moving, please come to ** and find people for the work of the troops**.

**After learning the meaning of ***, he immediately handed over the work at hand and arrived in Beiping by train in early June. After a few days, I knew why I called myself:I hope he can become the Minister of Public Security!

However, *** wanted to continue to fight south with the Siye troops, so he proposed that Li Kenong be the minister of public security. After listening, he smiled and said: "Everyone has their own business, Li Kenong has his own business to do, so don't negotiate the price." ”

Then, **tell *** that *** this matter ** has been decided, and in the evening, ** will summon your ......”

In the evening of the same day, **I was received at the Shuangqing Villa in Xiangshan***

After seeing ***, ** said:"I heard that you don't want to be the Minister of Public Security?Want to keep going to war?Now it's time to establish a new state power, and everyone goes to war, is that appropriate?”

** After listening to the Chair's words, he happily accepted the new organization of work.

In this way, the next day, he devoted himself to the creation of the public security work of the republic, and assumed the heavy responsibility of defending the leadership of the Republic.

For ***, public security work is different from military work during the war years, this is a completely new field. During his tenure as Minister of Public Security, he humbly listened to the teachings of *** and was known as "a good student".

According to the recollections of Xie Jueya's wife Wang Dingguo:

For the safety of ***, it is even more painstaking and thoughtful. Whenever he goes out and has a major job, he always follows him with a sense of responsibility like a guard. Mr. Xie often said to us with deep feelings: "Comrade * is not a minister, he is the best guard!"”

In the summer of 1950, after the outbreak of the Korean War, all kinds of counter-revolutionary elements hidden in the country became increasingly arrogant, seriously affecting the living environment of the common people.

In the face of the rampant situation of counter-revolutionaries in the country, **ask*** the situation at this stage, how are you going to deal with it?”

** then replied:"At present, the activities of the counter-revolutionaries are very rampant, and the people criticize us for being lenient and demand that we suppress the counter-revolution. After discussion, we decided to kill a group, lock up a group, and manage a group. ”

For the idea of ***, ** is to give yes:"I agree with you that now that the United States has brought the flames of war to our doorstep, we need to sweep the house clean so that we can better deal with imperialism. No matter what method we adopt, we must mobilize the masses, rely on the masses, make a big fanfare, and refrain from isolationism and mysticism. ”

Under the instructions of ***, ** immediately carried out work and successfully solved this "troublesome" matter.

From the above incidents, we can see that *** trusts *** very much, and regards him as a person loyal to the party and the people. For this reason, sometimes *** will summon *** by name to discuss some issues with him.

In 1953, in order to meet the needs of the country's large-scale economic construction, the party and state leadership groups were ready to be adjusted, and it was decided to transfer Gao Gang and others to Beijing.

After a while, ** went to *** for a conversation and asked him"What if I take a back seat?"”

After hearing the words, it felt very sudden.

I am very respectful to ***, and I learned that one day *** will take a back seat, and I suddenly felt uncomfortable, so I replied:"If the chairman takes a back seat, I will definitely be by your side......”

After hearing ***'s words, ** just smiled and didn't reply.

However, it is the trust of *** in him that *** will be reused.

In April 1959, he served as the deputy prime ministerOn May 8, he concurrently served as the leader of the political and legal team;On September 17, he also served as Chief of the General Staff.

Originally, *** mainly worked on ***'s side, but after serving as chief of the general staff, according to ***'s arrangement, his main energy was transferred to the army.

With these transfers, the position of ** is above that of other generals. On September 26, the Politburo decided: **preside over the daily work of the Military Commission, ** as a member of the Standing Committee of the Military Commission and Secretary General of the Military Commission.

Since then, he has become the main leader who is specifically responsible for the daily work of the Central Military Commission under the leadership of the Central Military Commission.

In fact, judging from the several job transfers, in addition to his own work ability, there is naturally an element of high trust from *** and other leaders.

According to *** daughter Luo Diandian:

Dad did start to stand out from this time (after the Lushan Conference), and there is no doubt that this is because he is increasingly valued and appointed ......Dad returned to the army from the public security department in this way, which means that he was ordered to be in danger. This series of appointments all shows that *** and others have a special appreciation for him.

Now that he has gone to work in the Military Commission, he no longer holds the post of Minister of Public Security. At the farewell meeting of the Ministry of Public Security, ** summed up his work:

Over the past 10 years, if we say that we have not made any major mistakes in our work, basically carried out the party's line, and basically fulfilled the tasks entrusted to us by the party in the public security front, then this should first of all be attributed to the party, to the party committees at all levels, and to the correct leadership of our party leaders.

In fact, this is also an interpretation of work performance and organizational trust!

When presiding over the work of the General Staff, General Yang Yong once commented:"He is a good student and a good boss for us. ”

Indeed, at that time, the cultivation and cultivation of *** was indeed like a tireless "teacher". In terms of work, ** trusts him very much and gives him important responsibilities.

In May 1962, ** in Shanghai, he was suddenly summoned by the economy

Because according to the reports of the intelligence services at that time, Chiang Kai-shek was preparing a military operation against the southeastern coast, for which exercises were also conducted.

After hearing the news, I was very vigilant.

After **summoning *** and others, a secret meeting was held in Shanghai, and the main agenda was to revise the "Proposal on Strategic Directions".

This document drafted by the ** Military Commission on the formulation of China's strategic guidelines. This document has been sitting on ***'s desk for two years now. It is precisely because of the imminent danger of war that *** decided to take it out for revision, and will be the main commander of this revision work.

At the end of May, he was urgently summoned again as soon as the Strategic Approach Proposal had been revised. On May 30, according to the opinion of ***, the strategic group of the Central Military Commission led by *** and *** met in Beijing:Study of operational problems in the southeastern coastal zone.

After the end of this meeting, the responsible persons of the Nanjing Military Region, the Shanghai Garrison Region, and the Jiangsu Provincial Military Region were convened to convey a message that they would prepare for war.

As soon as the troops in the southeastern coastal areas immediately entered a state of emergency combat readiness, the troops of various military regions entering Fujian secretly marched into the southeastern coastal areas.

However, because the United States ** Kennedy made a public statement and did not support Chiang Kai-shek's military action, Chiang Kai-shek's plan had to be in vain.

This incident is an open military deployment presided over by *** under the arrangement of ***. It is through this incident that many people have learned how to become a key person in the newly formed leadership group of the Military Commission, who has the power to be uploaded!

**Trust in *** is not only reflected in the work, but also *** also entrusts his private life to *** to deal with.

**'s son Mao Anqing has been recuperating in Dalian since he returned from the Soviet Union in 1947. In 1960, after Mao Anqing married Shao Hua, he wrote a letter to ***, hoping to come to Beijing to live.

At that time, *** felt that it was inconvenient for Mao Anqing and his wife to live with him, so he told Li Yinqiao to find *** to help arrange for Mao Anqing and his family to return to Beijing.

It was under the arrangement of *** that the lives of Mao Anqing and Shao Hua were taken care of by the General Staff Administration, and it remained the same for decades to come, and it did not change.

Through the above things, we can know the level of trust that *** has in ***!

I learned that *** had died

It is all kinds of care that *** takes care of, which also makes *** have deep feelings for ***.

On September 9, 1976, ** passed away. After learning the news, ***, who was far away in Fuzhou, rushed back to Beijing in a hurry.

When bidding farewell to the body of ***, **insisted on letting people support him and walk through ***'s coffin. He looked at the giant's face for a long time, and wept silently.

On September 18, the memorial meeting of ** was held in Tiananmen Square. At that time, the relevant parties sent a car to Chen Zaidao, Tan Zheng, and **. If you were an ordinary person, a car would indeed be enough for three people, but at that time, General *** was injured and needed to use a wheelchair, so one car was not enough at all.

General Chen Zaidao's temper was a little anxious, so he said: "I really don't know who arranged it, ** one person needs a car, he, wheelchair, and wheelchair pusher, how can the three of us go?."”

**After hearing this, he said:"Even if I don't have a car, I have to climb to Tiananmen Square!”

In the end, after the efforts of the three people, the relevant parties finally sent an additional car, and several people were able to make the trip. After getting off the bus, ** sat in a wheelchair and came to Tiananmen Square with the help of his son.

After the memorial service began, with the support of his son, ** insisted on getting out of the wheelchair, on crutches, and stood solemnly in front of the portrait of ***, bursting into tears and crying silently.

After the memorial service, **due to a heavy mood, resulting in coronary heart disease**, he was admitted to 301 Hospital!

For the friendship between himself and ***, the ** general once said:In my life, I have done one thing right, that is, to make a revolution with ***!

In fact, looking at the sincere friendship between *** and *** for decades, it is undoubtedly touching!
