According to the official of the Permanent Mission of China to the United NationsOn December 11, local time, representatives of 13 countries in the United Nations Security Council, except for the United States and France, visited the Rafah crossing on the border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip.
Zhang Jun, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, was one of the representatives of the special mission.
On the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing, Zhang Jun said in an interview: "This is really a tragedy. The conflict has gone on for too long, and people have suffered too much. For the Council, the maintenance of peace and security is undoubtedly the primary responsibility, and we have worked very hard to do more. ”
The current round of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has been delayed for two months.
More than 17,490 people have died in the Gaza Strip, including about 7,870 children and 6,121 women, since the new Palestinian-Israeli conflict began on October 7, according to a new statement from the Hamas** office. Another 43,616 people were injured and nearly 7,600 are missing.
The Rafah crossing is currently the main gateway for humanitarian aid and fuel to the Gaza Strip.
However, according to the latest statistics from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, only 14 hospitals in the entire Gaza Strip are currently barely functioning.

On December 8, the UN Security Council voted on a draft resolution drafted by the United Arab Emirates calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, co-sponsored by nearly 100 co-sponsors, including China.
At the heart of the draft resolution is a call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza and for the release of all hostages.
Of the 15 members of the Council, 13 voted in favour, the United Kingdom abstained one and the United States voted against. Since the United States is a permanent member of the Security Council and has the right of veto, the resolution could not be adopted.
In his explanatory remarks after the vote, Zhang Jun, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, expressed great disappointment and regret.
Zhang Jun said that China calls on all parties concerned to focus all their efforts on the common goal of quelling the fighting in Gaza, so as to give the Palestinian people hope for survival and peace for the Middle East.
On 11 December, Ambassador Zhang Jun, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, together with the ambassadors of relevant Security Council member states, visited the Rafah border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt. 
On its way to the Rafah crossing, the delegation participated in a closed-door briefing on the situation in the Gaza Strip on the Egyptian side of the border, with the participation of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, the Palestine Red Crescent Society and the Egyptian Ministry of Health.
The delegation listened to the relevant agencies of Egypt and the United Arab Emirates on the situation and difficulties faced by the relevant agencies of Egypt and the United Arab Emirates on the provision of humanitarian assistance and medical assistance to the Palestinian people, held discussions with the heads of United Nations agencies, and visited ports, warehouses of humanitarian supplies, hospitals, desalination water plants and other places.
Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Nebenzya, also participated in the study tour. "As all humanitarian agencies have called for, and as we have been emphasizing since day one, no temporary humanitarian ceasefire will solve the problem," he said in an interview. ”
It is worth mentioning that, in accordance with the resolution adopted by the General Assembly in 1950, if the Security Council is unable to fulfil its primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security due to the lack of consensus among the permanent members, the General Assembly should immediately convene an emergency special session to consider the matter.
On December 10, President Francis of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly informed UN member states that the 10th emergency special session of the United Nations General Assembly will resume the 45th plenary meeting at 3 p.m. EST on December 12 to discuss the Palestinian-Israeli situation.
