Recently, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration released the first batch of important habitats for terrestrial wildlife (No. 23 of 2023), and the Nanji Wetland National Nature Reserve (hereinafter referred to as the "Nanji Wetland Reserve") in Poyang Lake, Jiangxi Province was selected.

It is understood that the first batch of important habitats of terrestrial wildlife are divided into six categories, including the survival and breeding areas of precious and endangered species and the distribution areas of wild animal clusters, covering 565 countries.

The habitats, breeding grounds, and migratory areas of wild animals under the first and second class key protection have protected 8236% of the terrestrial wildlife species under national key protection.

Nanji Wetland Reserve is one of the first members of the Yangtze River Wetland Conservation Network, a member of the East Asian-Australasian Migratory Bird Flyway Wetland Network, a wetland of international importance and a national forest and grass science popularization base. The reserve is located in the south of the main lake area of Poyang Lake, with a total area of 333 square kilometers, at the front end of the delta formed by the alluvial confluence of the northern, middle and southern branches of the Ganjiang River, and is also the junction of Nanchang, Jiujiang and Shangrao. The main object of protection of the reserve is the "Ganjiang Estuary-Poyang Lake" composite wetland ecosystem and the wildlife resources that depend on it. The Ganjiang Estuary-Poyang Lake wetland is not only a rare inland estuarine delta in China, but also a fish spawning and fattening site and migratory passage in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, as well as a key node of the international flyway route for birds.
