Indonesia** said on the afternoon of December 24 that an accident at a steel plant in the country's Central Sulawesi province had killed 13 people and injured dozens on the same day.

According to CCTV News, Xinhua News Agency, etc., an accident occurred at a steel plant in Sulawesi, and personnel appeared. The death toll was reported earlier at 12. The scene of the incident was in the Molovari Integrated Industrial Park Castle Peak Campus (IMIP), a large-scale stainless steel and ferronickel production base.

A spokesperson for the Molovari Park reportedly confirmed that the dead included eight Indonesian workers and five Chinese workers, with another 38 injured. Rahmansyah, the acting director of the industrial park, told the Indonesian newspaper Compass that 15 Indonesians and 10 foreigners had to be taken to hospital for treatment, and 17 of them were seriously injured.

IMIP management said they would cover all costs of victim care and ** after the accident and compensate the victims' families.

A spokesman for IMIP** stressed that after investigating the cause of the accident, it was found that oxygen did not occur at the scene** as previously reported. It is said that the accident occurred at 5:30 a.m. local time on December 24, and the preliminary investigation results showed that during the maintenance of the furnace of Indonesian Tsingshan Stainless Steel Company (ITSS) in the park, the iron slag in the furnace accidentally flowed out, and then the furnace wall collapsed, and all the remaining iron slag flowed out to cause a fire, and the high temperature steam and flames caused the death and injury of workers on site. The fire was allegedly extinguished at 9:10 a.m. local time.

Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment has coordinated with relevant companies to ask all parties to prioritize the affairs of the victims and their families.
