Topaz is divided into two types: mountain material and seed material. Seed topaz is not only yellowing of the skin color, but also the color of the flesh must be yellow, consistent inside and outside, not whitish or light, in order to be called real topaz. Some people believe that the yellow topaz is not authentic topaz, and that the authentic topaz should be the topaz of the primary mine. In fact, topaz is formed due to the oxidation of the white jade in the rough stone by the iron and turns yellow.

The mountain material of topaz is mainly distributed in the Kunlun Mountains of Qinghai Province and the Altun Mountains, Qimo County and Ruoqiang County of Xinjiang. However, there is only one place of origin of Hotan seed topaz, that is, the Hotan region of Xinjiang. There is also a small amount of topaz, but it is very rare in the market. The topaz of Qinghai material is characterized by good water head, high permeability and excellent jade properties. The hue of the yellow material in Ruoqiang County is correct, and the oiliness and moistness are also better than those of topaz in Qinghai Province.

However, topaz also has some drawbacks. It is prone to stiffness and cracking, and high-quality yellow mouth materials are rare on the market. Because the yellow material often has cracks, and many of them are also treated with solid wax, the wax dries out over time, which will lead to poor appearance, and left and right cracks and defects will appear. As a result, the market is polarized in terms of finished products.

When buying yellow materials, jade friends must be cautious. At present, the quality of topaz on the market is uneven, and it is not recommended for novices to directly contact the mountain material Huangkou at the beginning. In contrast, the seed feed is much better. Low-end topaz with bad color or impurities is cheap, while a perfect topaz bracelet will be tens or even a hundred times higher.

Seeds that can reach the topaz level are very rare. There are almost no large pieces of Hetian jade on the market, and some finished products have defects or cracks that need to be carefully inspected.

In addition, there are some materials on the market that are called seed topaz that are actually made from mountain material. In short, for beginners, if you don't have professional knowledge of Hetian jade, it's best not to touch Huangqin and seed topaz.
