Four poems by Xu Jianwei
1. The Song of Pujiang.
The murmur of the early morning.
It's you saying good morning to the dawn.
The uproar of the evening.
It's you who tell the night about tenderness.
The folds of tender yellow satin.
I inherited the ripples of the ancients.
It never stops.
Witness epic upheaval.
You're watching all the time.
The flame of national take-off.
You're listening every minute and every second.
The breath of Shanghai running.
AhhHuangpu River, my love.
You are a watershed moment in a dream.
Classical precipitation in the West Bank.
Modern towers over the East Coast.
4 July 2009.
2. Flowers. Outside the mirror.
There is a sprig of flowers. in the mirror.
There is also a branch. I caress it.
Mirrors inside and out.
A delicate sprig. A sprig is cold.
23 June 2009.
3. Comparison. 100 million years ago.
100 million years later.
It was the dinosaurs that disappeared.
What survived were cockroaches.
The bell of perdition.
Do not retreat because of the sheer size of the body.
The nobility of existence.
It is not devalued by anyone's disgust.
On dinosaur fossils.
Crawling live cockroaches.
Huge footprints are dead.
Tiny footprints are alive.
June 19, 2009.
Fourth, the heart. The Ice Age kisses the Earth.
Silvery kiss marks spilled all over the world.
A misty chill seeped out.
Dance accompanied by the aurora.
Boundless cold.
Shroud me and my tent.
Invades the only warmth.
Even huskies are shivering.
On the graveyard of the mammoth.
The sleigh is strong with scratches.
10,000 blizzard nights.
There are 10,000 beating hearts.
18 June 2009.
