China Youth Daily Client News (China Youth Daily, China Youth Network reporter Meng Peipei) recently announced the 2023 China Model Employer List. This year, under the theme of "Sustainability" and "Caring", the competition has been held for 16 consecutive years, and 135 leading employers have been selected to focus on caring for employees' health and well-being, and to respond positively to internal and external challenges under the theme of "Sustainability" and "Caring".
According to the list, the industrial and resources sectors have the most employers on the list, with a total of 50;Specialty retail (65%) and FMCG (59%) are the most optimistic about market and business performance, while those in the automotive and spare parts (88%) and semiconductor integrated circuits (100%) sectors are generally feeling strong challenges. The real estate sector, which once reached seven in 2020, has only one state-owned enterprise on the list this year.
Fifty-one percent of businesses said they faced "greater challenges than the previous year" this year, up from 47% in 2022 and 45% in 2021, but four in ten employers still said they were "better than last year".
While 48% of exemplary employers have fewer employees in 2023 than they did in the same period last year, the overall workforce size of employers on this year's list is higher than that of the previous year. 68 employers have more than 10,000 employees, and 61 of the 2022 list have more than 10,000 employees, of which 38 employers have mergers and acquisitions in 2022-2023, which has become the most important employee growth**.
Among exemplary employers, the proportion of outsourced and temporary employees has not decreased significantly, at 15% in 2023 and 2022, but only 11% in 2021. The service sector, represented by banks, provides the most jobs, followed by IT and pharmaceutical, and other R&D industries, represented by medical devices. The insurance, transport and logistics sectors provide the largest number of informal jobs.
Retaining and motivating key employees, organizational change and innovation, and building employer brand are the three priorities of the 2023 Model Employer HR Strategy, and "Talent Acquisition", which has been the number one priority for more than a decade, has been no longer a priority for two consecutive years. More than 80% of exemplary employers say they can't find suitable candidates for 10%-20% of positions in their companies.
Exemplar employers have about 23 mature talent hires this year50,000, 950,000, equivalent to 6% and 2% of the total number of employees, respectively, 2024 plans to recruit 2 fresh graduates70,000. Senior technical experts are still the biggest talent gap in enterprises, and the demand for algorithmic talent has decreased compared to 2022. Unlike in the past two years, this year, the demand for frontline workers (non-R&D) by exemplary employers has dropped significantly (-10%), and there has also been a significant contraction in junior and intermediate management positions (-5%).
About one-third of exemplary employers failed to increase their revenues in 2022, and 36% of employers saw their corporate profits decline, making more than half of exemplary employers not see as much increase in employee compensation in 2023 as the previous year. However, exemplary employers have increased their investment in the employee experience, including increased parental leave for men, a variety of courses and activities for employees to relax and well-being, expanded coverage of commercial insurance, new free benefits such as teeth cleaning and vaccinations, and more flexible working hours. The recognition and reward of employees has also strengthened the timeliness and extensiveness, and creative incentives such as bonuses, vacations, and even study tours will be given in perennial service, global projects, daily points, innovative suggestions, and public welfare activities.
Almost all of the 2023 Model Employers agree that the difference in the work attitude and values of post-00 employees brings a new perspective to the enterprise. At the same time, exemplary employers also said that artificial intelligence and automation technology have and will continue to play an increasing and important role in the future-oriented development of enterprises, with 87% of employers believing that strategic thinking is the biggest ability gap for employees today, and employers provide employees with development Xi and training based on business goals and data technology. "How to maintain the sustainability and resilience of individual skills" and "how to help employees find the value and meaning of their jobs" are becoming important issues for model employers and HR leaders to explore in human resource management practices.
It is reported that the selection is based on the model of leading employers in many industries in China, and studies how excellent human resource management strategies and specific practices affect the business performance of enterprises, how the talent advantages of enterprises are transformed into competitive advantages, and the positive promotion of "people-oriented" and "people-oriented" business environment and corporate culture by China's outstanding HR groups.
