What do we lose when we grow up?

When I was a child, our world was so simple, so innocent. We can break up with a table mate because of a piece of candy, or we can reconcile because of a bag of snacks.

We can be beaten up by our own father and called our mother, but as soon as we get the pocket money, we laugh like a little fox. The boy we have a crush on wants to chase the class flower, and generously helps him write love letters. We fell out of love, failed in exams, graduated, and everyone left crying and then telling ourselves that it was no big deal.

When we grow up, we seem to have lost that courage and calmness. We can no longer trust the people who have hurt us, and we can no longer afford any kind of parting. We couldn't even cry because we were afraid of waking people up. We become more and more cautious, less and less afraid to love, less and less afraid to hurt.

We begin to fear failure, fear of being ridiculed, fear of being abandoned. We began to pursue perfection, stability, and comfort. We begin to hide our emotions, hide our vulnerability, hide our truth.

We start to become more and more like adults, less and less like ourselves. We began to forget the bravery, the calmness, and the innocence when we were children.

Have we really lost something?Or rather, do we really get something?

Perhaps, in the process of growing up, we have learned more survival skills, learned more social rules, and learned more life philosophies. But we have also lost that carefree joy, that fearless courage, that unconditional trust.

When we grow up, we may be more mature, more rational, and more powerful. But we have also lost that simplicity, that innocence, that freedom.

When we grow up, can we still regain the courage and calmness we had when we were children? Can we still regain that love of life and trust in human nature?

No matter how we grow up and how we change, we should not forget the fearless and innocent self we once had. Because that self is our truest self and our most precious treasure.
