Pocono Mountains, Pa. – This fall, visitors to Pocono Mountains' Carbon, Monroe, Pike and Wayne counties are invited to explore another world of rare plants, wildlife, babbling creeks and incredible colors. It's as simple as putting on those walking shoes and hitting the trails for a memories-filled adventure.
Escape is a welcome retreat in the daily schedule that many people rely on to survive. Whether someone is an "outdoor person" or not, visitors will be amazed at how refreshing and fun it is to walk in the woodlands or meadows of the Pocono Mountains. For some, it's a struggle to stay away from the allure of shopping malls, water parks, and other attractions, but once they experience what's inside the store in their natural environment, they discover a whole new world.
While walking along the trails of the Pocono Mountains, visitors can easily spot rare plants such as Ennivorous Plants and Rodri, which are only found here and in the woods of New Hampshire. Wildlife viewing abounds, whether spotting deer, bald eagles, woodpeckers, frogs, otters, or their tracks. Children are especially happy when they find out that they are creatures of the wild.

There are several types of trails to choose from. Visitors will find trails covered with gravel, some formerly railroad beds called railroad trails, some along rivers and streams, and some just trails through wooded or open areas.
Visitors can put the intimidation aside and walk leisurely off the beaten track without the need for special skills or equipment. Most trails are clearly marked, groomed, and often mapped. Visitors can find these trails in any of the seven state parks in the Pocono Mountains – Kono, Hickory Run, Lehigh Canyon, Promised Lands, Gouldsboro, Tobyhanna, and Beltsville. The famous Appalachian Trail hikes through the Kitatinet Mountains near the Delaware Water Gorge. At the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, visitors can find many hiking and nature trails, including the McDodd Trail. Whether in the park or on your own, there are plenty of places for visitors to wander around and discover a whole new world.
