Recently, the 6,600-ton rocket transport ro-ro ship "Ferrymar", developed and designed by the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute of China Shipbuilding Group (CSSC) for the French company Marfret, has been completed and delivered, which will be used to deliver the latest "Ariane 6" carrier rocket to the French Guiana Space Center. This is the first type of rocket transport ro-ro ship independently developed and designed by the Shanghai Shipyard after the successful research and development of China's first integrated large-scale fracturing ship this year, which demonstrates the strong design and development capabilities of the institute in the field of high-tech and high value-added special ships, and adds a "new business card" to promote the high-quality development of China's shipbuilding industry.

The vessel is equipped with twin medium-speed engines and twin propellants, and can float flat in and out of the shallow waters of French Guiana. It is equipped with an ultra-high cargo compartment and excellent cargo capacity, which can not only load all the components and accessories of the "Ariane 6" launch vehicle, but also roll on various cars, trucks, trailers and other large and heavy vehicles. At the same time, it can also be hoisted or fork-loaded containers and other packaged goods, and is also suitable for dangerous goods and cold box transportation.

The ship has an ingenious design, advanced configuration, excellent line type and excellent performance. New technologies such as the S-Bow and double tail fin linear type of the head of the low-wave drag increase, the double twisting rudder with the rudder ball, the dual head side thrust controlled by frequency conversion, the anti-roll system, the high-voltage shore power system, and the low-voltage selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system have been applied, and the energy saving and emission reduction effect is remarkable, meeting the requirements of Tier III emissions, and the EEDI is lower than the baseline of 385%。

It is understood that the famous "Ariane 5" launch vehicle ended its service on July 6, 2023 after performing 117 launch missions. After that, the French Guiana Space Center will usher in the "Ariane 6" era. The successful delivery of the 6,600-ton rocket transport ro-ro ship will effectively serve the new round of human space exploration, and will become a link to enhance the economic ties between the Caribbean islands, create a larger market for local industrial development, and bring greater economic benefits and social influence to ship-owning companies.
