What is OSHC?
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is specially designed for international students, and the purchase of OSHC can provide health and medical protection for every child studying in Australia.
Is OSHC mandatory?
Seeing a doctor in Australia is very expensive, and if you don't have health insurance, it can be a big expense for international students to see a doctor, and with OSHC you can save a lot of money.
OSHC is mandatory, and all students who go to study in Australia need to buy it, and they can only apply for a visa after buying insurance.
How to buy OSHC?
Students can determine how to purchase OSHC when applying to Australian universities, and there are currently 6 insurance companies that provide OSHC: Medibank, Bupa, Nib, Ahm, Allianz, and CBHS International, which can usually be purchased in two ways:
Students pay the OSHC fee directly to the university through the Australian university they are applying to, and each Australian university has its own cooperative OSHC insurance company.
Students choose OSHC Insurance** to purchase their own insurance.
How long is OSHC valid for?
Students must pay attention to the validity period of their OSHC, whether it is transferring or further studies, they must ensure that the OSHC insurance is valid during the period of study in Australia, so as to avoid the situation that the insurance is discontinued in Australia.
The length of the OSHC insurance must cover the duration of the visa. Students can purchase OSHC for the length of the COE course. The OSHC must start 2 weeks before the start of the first COE, and if the COE course ends in November-December and the visa normally expires on 15 March of the following year, the OSHC must be covered until 15 March of the following year. If the course ends in less than 10 months, the OSHC is usually 2 months longer than the course. OSHC** is $500 to $600 per year, depending on the insurance company.
What can OSHC reimburse?
Depending on the company's policy, there will be some differences in the items covered, but in general, the OSHC covers the following contents:
Inpatient medical services.
Out-of-hospital medical services.
Accommodation in a public hospital room or same-day hospitalization.
Hospitalization in a private hospital with an OSHC visa agreement.

Please note: OSHC insurance generally does not cover dental**, eyeglasses and physiotherapy services, and students will need to purchase additional commercial insurance services if required.
Important Reminder:
When students arrive in Australia, they must activate their OSHC first
