When the Japanese ambassador arrived in China to take up his new post, he made unreasonable demands on China and did not allow the Chinese side to enter the Diaoyu Islands
Recently, Kenji Kanesugi, the successor of former Japanese ambassador to China, Hideo Taruchi, has officially arrived in Beijing to take up his new post. At the cabinet meeting on October 24, Kishida** made a number of appointment changes, and quickly replaced three ambassadors abroad on the same day. Kenji Kanesugi succeeded Hideo Tarui as the new ambassador to China, Shigeo Yamada took over as ambassador to the United States, and Kennori Muto became the new ambassador to Russia. This series of personnel changes has attracted widespread attention.
Compared with the previous two ambassadors to China, Hiroshi Yokoi and Tarushi, Kenji Kanesugi is not a "Chinese intellectual" in Japan. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador to China, he served as Japan's Ambassador to Indonesia in Indonesia. As a result, Kanesugi has a much more limited understanding of Asian affairs than he does about China.
Although Kanesugi Kenji was not a "Zhihua faction", he had extensive diplomatic experience. He served as Counsellor at the Embassy of Japan in the United States, and also served as Director General of the Asia and Oceania Bureau and Foreign Affairs Examiner in charge of Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Until 2020, he served as Japan's ambassador to Indonesia. After three years in this position, Kanesugi is now the new ambassador to China, succeeding Hideo Tarushi.
It has been learned that shortly after arriving in Beijing and taking up his new post, Kanesugi held a press conference to introduce his upcoming diplomatic work. At the press conference, Kanesugi made three demands to China. First of all, on the issue of the discharge of Japan's nuclear-contaminated water into the sea. He said that dialogue was essential to resolve the issue of sewage discharge, and hoped that consultations at the expert level would be launched as soon as possible.
Secondly, on the question of a Japanese spy in China. He said that he would work hard to secure the release of Japanese detainees in China and work with China. Finally, on the issue of the dispute between China and Japan over the sea rights of the Diaoyu Islands. Kanesugi said he would emphasize Japan's sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands and warn China not to cross the line. This series of statements has attracted the attention of the outside world.
At the same time, Kishida** is also facing unfavorable news. According to a number of ** reports, Japan's food exports to China in November this year were **60 year-on-year3%。In particular, the decline in Japanese exports of aquatic products to China is particularly obvious. It is worth noting that in August this year, Japan insisted on discharging nuclear-contaminated water, and China quickly announced a complete suspension of the import of Japanese aquatic products.
If Japan really wants to build a solid and healthy Sino-Japanese relationship, it needs to be more rational in its approach to reality and avoid making unrealistic and unacceptable demands. On the contrary, they should show sufficient sincerity and get along with the Chinese side in a sincere and friendly manner.
