Cleaning A divorce gift from her ex husband to Maggie Cheung

If it weren't for Maggie Cheung, I don't think many Chinese would have paid attention to the French film "Clean".

The plot is really lackluster. Emily and Lee are a couple in the rock and roll circle, both of whom are drug addicts and have no fixed residence, and their son is raised by Lee's parents. Later, Lee died suddenly due to a drug overdose, Emily was sentenced to prison for carrying drugs, and Lee's parents blamed her. After being released from prison, Emily suddenly feels lonely and wants to take her son with her. In order to get the old man's understanding, she changed her mind, did some work she didn't like, stayed away from drugs, and finally succeeded in getting her son back, and she could continue her favorite career.

The film was made like a documentary, rambling, like many French films I've seen. Maybe it's the realism that the director deliberately pursues.

The story behind the movie is more exciting than the movie itself.

On the set, Maggie Cheung signed a divorce agreement with director Olivier Assayas, ending their four-year marriage. And this film was tailor-made by Assayas for Maggie Cheung, and later helped her after the Cannes seal. From this point of view, this film can be regarded as a divorce gift from Assayas to Maggie Cheung.

Maggie Cheung speaks English, French and Cantonese in the film, and she Xi French from scratch, and the final effect is that she can confuse the real with the fake. Maybe good actors are gifted with language.

There are also reports that Maggie Cheung never wore makeup during the filming of this film, and the costumes were all her own, probably to better integrate into the role.
