Our Next Energy (One), a Michigan-based energy storage technology company, announced that its Gemini dual-chemistry battery will allow the BMW IX to travel 6081 mile (978.)6 km).

This milestone was achieved through the WLTP test cycle, the European standard for determining the range of pure electric vehicles. Mujeeb Ijaz, CEO and Founder of One, said: "Electric vehicles will gain mass adoption when they provide enough range to make people feel comfortable with them as their only means of transportation. "Gemini batteries have proven that it can double the range of electric vehicles and break down the biggest barriers to electrification. ”

Gemini's dual-chemistry architecture contains two different battery types that use different battery chemistries. A lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery powers the electric motor for 99% of daily travel needs, with a range of 150 miles (241.).4 km). For long-distance road trips, the Gemini uses a high-energy-density anodde-less battery to deliver a battery at 150 miles (241.).4 km) to charge the lfp battery. The anodeless battery transmits power through ONE's proprietary, high-efficiency DC-DC converter, providing an additional 450 miles (724.)2 km). With a DC-DC converter, the two batteries work together to provide a range of more than 600 miles (965.) on a single charge6 km). The Gemini is the longest-range EV battery pack and is suitable for the typical 300-400 liters of usable space in the vehicle for energy storage.

In addition to expanding range, ONE's Gemini technology reduces the use of lithium by up to 20%, graphite by 60%, and minimizes the use of nickel and cobalt. To this end, ONE is creating a more sustainable energy storage technology that can significantly reduce environmental impact and costs.

Jürgen Hildinger, Head of New High Voltage Storage Technology at the BMW Group, says: "The more than 600 miles achieved with the BMW IX with Gemini are impressive. "We enjoy working with the ONE team and look forward to taking the next step together. ”

Last year, ONE signed an agreement with the BMW Group to integrate Gemini battery technology into the BMW iX's all-electric sports utility vehicle. BMW I Ventures, the Silicon Valley-based venture capital arm of the automaker, is also an investor in ONE.

Now that ONE has successfully demonstrated Gemini technology, the company will focus on further refining the system in preparation for commercialization. These include improving the efficiency of DC-DC converters, developing enhanced control algorithms to optimize the use of extended-range batteries, and conducting further battery validation and battery development.

All these steps are aimed at further improving the product range and preparing the way for the development of a sample for a complete production plan.
