In the early morning of March 25, 1949, Kuomintang military planes were hovering over Qiaolin Town, Jiangbei, Nanjing, and then a large number of leaflets fell from the sky.

The flyer reads: ".Officers and men of the 97th Division: Your division commander Wang Yanqing colluded with the party and the state, and the officers and men of this division have a long and glorious history in our army, and they have always been well aware of the great righteousness, and they hope to return with weapons and will be rewarded heavily! Those who kill the king and bandits will be rewarded with 30,000 yuan of Yinyang, and those who kill the secondary leader will be rewarded with 10,000 yuan, and they will be promoted in a row.

Before dawn that day, the guard hurried to wake up Lao Jiang, who was very displeased and was about to open his mouth to reprimand, but was shocked by the guard's words, and he said to himself with a depressed face: "I am really blind!."”

It turned out that the 45th Division of the 97th Army of the Kuomintang revolted under the leadership of the division commander. The impact of the uprising of the 97th Division was even far above the uprising led by Fu Zuoyi, which caused a huge ** in the Kuomintang camp.

The 97th Division was not an ordinary Kuomintang army, it was the Kuomintang Capital Guard Division, a guard unit dedicated to guarding Lao Chiang and other high-level Kuomintang officials, and a descendant unit that won the trust of Lao Chiang, and was called the "Imperial Forest Army".

Lao Jiang once was very confident that even if more troops revolted, the "Imperial Forest Army" he cultivated would never betray it, but in fact there was no such thing as "absolutely", and the 97th Division soon gave him a resounding slap in the face.

Afterwards, many people believed that the 97th Division revolted before the liberation of Nanjing, and the blow to Lao Chiang was the greatest.

So, why did the 97th Division, a descendant of Lao Chiang, go to the road of uprising? What the hell happened then?

The 97th Division is the descendant of the old Chiang's troops, and it consists ofThe 289th Regiment, the 290th Regiment, and the 291st Regiment were formed

The predecessor of the 289th Regiment was the Military Commission Guard Regiment, which directly served as Lao Chiang's guard work.

The predecessor of the 290th Regiment was the guard regiment when Chen Cheng was the commander of the Sixth Theater and the minister of military affairs, and served as Chen Cheng's guard work.

The predecessor of the 291st Regiment was Gu Zhutong's Third Theater Commander's Headquarters Guard Regiment, and after Gu Zhutong became the commander-in-chief of the army, it was changed to the Army General Headquarters Guard Regiment and served as Gu Zhutong's guard work.

Lao Jiang organized these three regiments together to form the Capital Guard Division, and Shi Zude, the chief of the ** Mansion Guard, concurrently served as the division commander, serving as the guard of the "** official residence" and some important places, which was Lao Jiang's hometown troops.

The Capital Guard Division has a total of 13,000 people, all of which are equipped with American weapons and equipment, and is a relatively strong combat unit, so it is also known as the "ace army of the descendants" in the first class.

In October 1948, ** was defeated in the War of Liberation, in order to strengthen the defense of the capital Nanjing area, Lao Jiang weighed it again and again, and then combined the Capital Guard Division and the 102nd Division and other troops to expand into the 45th Army, under the command of Zhang Yaoming, commander-in-chief of the capital Weicheng.

After the reorganization, Zhao Xia, the former commander of the Capital Guard Division, was promoted to the commander of the 45th Army, and the 97th Division under its jurisdiction was nominally a "field force", but the tasks undertaken by the division did not change much, and it still served as a garrison in Nanjing.

After the former commander of the 97th Division was promoted to the commander of the 45th Army, the post of division commander remained undecided due to the importance of the Capital Guard Division. Lao Chiang personally guarded it, and many Kuomintang generals fought openly and secretly, and some even spent a lot of money to try to open up the joints, but they were all vetoed by Lao Chiang.

When Lao Jiang was struggling to find a candidate for the commander of the Capital Guard Division, Lao Jiang's eldest son learned of this situation and recommended a candidate to his fatherWang Yanqing

Wang Yanqing is an upright person, a decent style, does not smoke, does not prostitute, does not gamble, does not stick to alcohol, does not tend to be inflammatory, is a rare decent person among the first middle and high-level military and political personnel, and is deeply appreciated by his superiors.

Wang Yanqing was originally the deputy commander of the 208th Division of the Kuomintang Youth Army, graduated from the Army University, participated in the War of Resistance Against Japan, made many military exploits, and was deeply appreciated by his superiors. So, Lao Jiang personally summoned Wang Yanqing, and after some conversation, Lao Jiang was very satisfied with Wang Yanqing.

Soon, Wang Yanqing officially took office as the commander of the 97th Division, became a senior general of the Kuomintang, and was in charge of the "Royal Forest Army".

Although Wang Yanqing is a celebrity around Lao Jiang, he is upright, but he hates the corrupt behavior of ** officers, so he shares some of his views with his uncle Deng Haoming**.

Wang Yanqing had a thorough view of the current situation and deeply felt that the deterioration of the Kuomintang in the military, political, and economic fields would be difficult to maintain.

During this same period, the CCP's underground organization in Nanjing also discovered the changes in the capital guard division, and after learning about Wang Yanqing's situation, they sent Lu Ping to do the work of rebellion.

Lu Ping got acquainted with Wang Yanqing through the inner line Deng Haoming, and soon won Wang's trust, although he didn't mind after realizing that Lu Ping was a Communist Party, but he still encountered some situations when he rebelled against Wang.

Wang Yanqing has said on many occasions that although the Kuomintang is corrupt and incompetent, and the fate of defeat is inevitable, he was picked up by Lao Chiang, and he has the grace and affection for him. If he leads his troops to revolt because of political disagreement, wouldn't he be ungrateful?

Lu Ping had many long talks with Wang Yanqing, and mobilized Deng Haoming and his wife to do Wang Yanqing's work together, which successfully took down Wang.

However, just after Wang Yanqing agreed to lead his troops to revolt, after Lu Ping's repeated instructions, an accident still occurred.

On the evening of March 22, 1949, Wang Yanqing actually used the ** of the 97th Division to call Lu Ping ** and asked: "What is the call sign of your radio station?"Didn't tell me, how do I contact you guys?”

At that time, the outer line of the 97th Division headquarters needed to be transferred through the switchboard of the military headquarters, if the switchboard of the military headquarters was controlled by the spies, then Wang Yanqing's ** was actually equivalent to self-exposure, **Lu Ping on the other end was suddenly cold, and immediately hung up without saying a word**.

Sure enough, Wang Yanqing was soon "invited" to the Nanjing Weicheng General Headquarters, Zhang Yaoming showed him a note that read "Accept Communist Gold Bars and Plot to Rebel", although there was no substantive evidence, but Wang was still put under house arrest, and later with the help of Deputy Commander-in-Chief Qin Yizhi, Wang Yanqing was able to get out and return to the 97th Division.

Wang Yanqing, who returned to the division headquarters, immediately summoned several henchmen to come to discuss and decided to launch an uprising in advance.

Subsequently, Wang Yanqing crossed the river overnight and reached Jiangbei on the grounds that the troops were ordered to cross the river and sweep.

In the middle of the night of March 24, 1949, the 289th Regiment and the 290th Regiment all successfully crossed the river, but the 291st Regiment, which was far away from the division headquarters, reported the situation of the whole division crossing the river to Zhang Yaoming after receiving the order to cross the river.

Because Zhang Yaoming and others did not dare to directly report the uprising of the 97th Division to Lao Jiang immediately, this was the beginning of the scene.

When the officers and soldiers of the 97th Division saw the leaflets, they realized that it was true that the mission of crossing the river was fake, and it was true that they had defected to the People's Liberation Army, and that the commander of the 290th Regiment, who had not participated in planning the uprising in advance, turned back with his troops, and many soldiers of the 97th Division followed.

Wang Yanqing hastily led the capital guard division to revolt, and although there were only more than 100 people left when he finally arrived in the liberated areas, it also brought a huge impact on the reactionary rule of the Chiang dynasty and caused great shock and panic within the Kuomintang.
