At the end of 1973, the matter of the transfer of commanders of the eight military regions was discussed in the study and meeting room. He believes that long-term expectations in one place are easy to become negative, which is not conducive to personal and professional progress.

At many meetings with the leaders of the major military regions, the arrangements for the transfer of commanders of the eight major military regions were finally decided.

Ding Sheng was transferred from commander of the Guangzhou Military Region to the Nanjing Military Region during the transfer of commanders of the eight major military regions. However, he did not stay in the Nanjing Military Region for long, and in 1977 he was removed from the post of commander of the Nanjing Military Region and placed under review.

Officially, Ding Sheng is related to the "Gang of Four" and is closer. In 1976, the ** working group went to Shanghai to smash the "Gang of Four" remnants, and in the process of reviewing the remnants of the Shanghai party, they revealed that they had conspired with Ding Sheng for a possible civil war, so Ding Sheng was implicated and was not only removed from office, but also expelled from the party.

So, how did Ding Sheng establish contact with the "Gang of Four" Shanghai Yu Party? On the evening of August 8, 1976, Ding Sheng stayed at the Yan'an Hotel in Shanghai while inspecting the defense of the Zhoushan Islands.

Soon, his secretary told him that Liao Hansheng, the political commissar of the Nanjing Military Region, was suffering from an illness in Shanghai, and hoped that Ding Sheng would be able to say hello to the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and let the local hospital pay attention to his condition.

So, Ding Sheng made a ** call to the office of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, and this move was learned by Ma Tianshui, then secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee. That night, Ma Tianshui took Xu Jingxian and Wang Xiuzhen to Yan'an Hotel and had a long conversation with Ding Sheng.

It was during that conversation that Ding Sheng revealed his intention to fight.

In August 1976, Ding Sheng was accused of having anything to do with the "Gang of Four" Shanghai Yu Dang, because they issued ** to the militia in accordance with the instructions of Wang Hongwen and ***, and prepared to form a second armed force.

Later data showed that in that month alone, the "Gang of Four" Shanghai remnants of the party issued 74,220 guns, 300 artillery pieces and tens of millions of rounds of ammunition to the militia.

Ding Sheng's conversation with the "Gang of Four" Shanghai remnants was believed to be related to this incident, which, combined with the testimony of Xu Jingxian and others, plunged Ding Sheng into crisis.

Although Ding Sheng did not admit that he had participated in the activities of the "Gang of Four" Shanghai remnants, he was removed from his post and placed under scrutiny. In the early days of his dismissal, Ding Sheng fell into extreme poverty in his life in Wutiao Lane, Nanjing, but fortunately he received help from his old comrades-in-arms.

In 1982, Ding Sheng was forced to retire, and in the same year, he was expelled from the party and placed by the local government. Later, Ding Sheng was placed in Nanchang. In his later years, he always had a wish, and that was to restore his party membership.

He wrote many letters to complain, but to no avail. Although the party ignored him, Ding Sheng was still very persistent in the party, he once said: "Born as a party person, die as a ghost of the party, although the party does not recognize me, but I recognize the party, I still regard myself as a party member."

The elder Ding Sheng failed to realize his wish to restore his party membership, and he was old and in poor health. In the early 90s, he sent a letter to his superiors hoping to return to Guangzhou so that his children could take care of him.

In 1995, with the help of the General Political Department, Ding Sheng was placed in the Guangzhou Military Region and enjoyed divisional treatment. The Guangzhou Military Region was also very concerned about this old leader, and assigned him a spacious house so that he could rely on it in his old age.

It is a pity that in 1999, the old man Ding Sheng died of illness in Guangzhou, and the memorial service hung out the elegy of "Ding Sheng old man through the ages", which is deeply mournful.
